Sounds like a major leak, or bad master cylinder. If there are no leaks, then I'd replace that master. And don't forget to bench bleed it first.

X2, if it's not an external leak then it's internal and that would be the master...

I've been fooled by many a leaky master cylinder, replacing parts and banging my head against the wall. Try this- crack open a brake line fitting at the master, not off, just loosen it. Have someone press the brake pedal down and hold it there, just like when bleeding brakes. See if fluid squirts like crazy, and if so be prepared to close it quickly before the pedal bottoms. Also have a rag covering the fitting so fluid doesn't ruin your paint. If you get serious pressure, test the other fitting. If not, dump that master cylinder.

If there is air in the lines or the master the pedal will feel spongy but it won't drop to the floor. That's why I agree with Mark if there is no leak then the master is at fault

Well ive been told by a few people now even my fellow boss who is a mechanic which i am his apprentice that the master cylinder might be shot :blam: well F*** me, it seems every time i try to do a simple job it just over complicates itself and gives me more headaches. Anyone have an idea on what one might cost and how hard it would be to install?

Quickest way to tell if its the master is to put a line lock on each brake hose and then hold pressure on the brake pedal if it drops at all it the master!

Ok well i knew i was right!! The Master Cylinder was not the problem, this time we bled the brakes we didnt do it the old fashion way of pumping the pedal all the time. We got our hands on a power bleeder which sucks all the air out with fluid. Also im gonna sh*t a brick on my friend tommorow , the two back calipers which he was responsible for were on the wrong side :blam: . Flipped them around bled them and viola pedal feels like brand new again. I knew it couldnt be the master cylinder good thing i didnt go buy one, it would have been 105$ !

The old fashion way has worked for generations so I think it had more to do with the callipers upside down. The whole chamber in the calliper that is supposed to be filled with fluid was filled with air. And for your friend , he may not be perfect but then again none of us are and at least he tried to help you.

and Peter nailed this one down....

are your bleeder valves facing upwards? if you switched sides perhaps then if your bleeders are facing downward, then you didnt install them right and you can't bleed them right

Haha yea i guess your right! Well we do it in school and i did the front two and he did the back two. I trust him a lot with doing stuff and he does the same with me, guess he just screwed up but it doesnt really matter now! As long as my brakes work im happy happy happy 🙂 I guess we all screw up once? 😉
