Build A Hellcat Eater

But installing it will raise costs, along with a good real turbo system, not Chinese Ebay garbage.

Really? From what I have seen the Chinese turbos like the GT45 are very well built. Have you heard of any failing from normal use because they are "garbage"? I haven't

While that statement may have rung true 15 years ago, the reality is that the current reliability of ebay chinese turbos rivals that of their name brand counterparts. I would, however, stick with a reputable vendor like VSracing over the no-name sellers on ebay.

It held true then and still does today. Most of the Chinese turbos will only last up to 30k miles on low boost at best. Name brands will easily last 150k and can be rebuilt with factory kits.

Posting a video of a noob only partly opening a turbo up and going: "dur it looks good to me dur," who lacks basic tool like a 10mm socket does not really prove anything. So he could not fully take it apart and failed to measure any clearances or parts play makes that video pretty uninformative.

Here are a few better videos.

German vs Chinese bearings.

I'm simply challenging the blanket statement that "all Chinese turbo's are garbage". So many people feel threatened (they should) and want to hate on China. In reality, many of the quality products we enjoy come from there. I purchase millions of dollars of tooling from China each year and can tell you first hand that the quality and cost is better than tooling made in the USA and EU (Yes, I know it's sad). It all depends on how the products are spec'd out by engineering up front. Agreed, my video choice could have been better...lol. I'm still not convinced the turbo's are junk and plan to use a GT45 on my 5.3 truck build.

I like hell cats , but I’m just saying you don’t have to spend 70k to go fast . My car has Ac, the suspensions all been done ( ridetech coil overs , strong arms , tru turn etc.... hell cats don’t handle that well . Not like say a Camaro 1LE, they are more of a drag/ street beast in my opinion . What do you think ? You actually own one , my car cost me like 25K . Doing all the work myself over a 2 yr period . So I guess I’m just saying if you can’t afford a hellcat , you can get pretty close if you know how to turn a wrench and do some research . Another thing is the wow factor . I get 4-5 thumbs up every time I take my car out . You just don’t see nice g body’s in Boston area too often .. but there are a lot of hell cats/ track hawks around .

You seem very convinced and didn't address the entirety of the question - only cherry picking the points that suit your argument. To fully outfit and refine a G-Body to the level of any modern production car is going to cost you $100K at least. Hellcats handle quite well actually, that is a common and very ignorant misconception. Perpetuation of nonsense is one of the biggest issues plaguing our society today.

Of course you see more new cars today, they are readily available and made on a normal production line. Hellcats aren't Bugattis.

Build a hellcat eater, 1970 edition.

-I have a 1932 Ford Model A, all these guys are buying these Hemi Chargers. Can I soup my ole' hotrod up to beat one?

And yes, to put it into perspective, there is an equal time distance between a 2020 hellcat and a 1982 G body as there is between a 32 Ford and a 70 Charger.

the Hellcat widebody has a .97g rating on cornering which is more than respectable, the Tesla S has a .94g rating, the BMW 330x iDrive is rated at 89g. The Camaro 1LE does have a higher rating at 1 g but the Camaro is marketed as a road coarse car and the two options you have with an engine is 275 hp and 335 hp. The Camaro will beat a Hellcat in the corner but it won't beat it to the corner and the first one in is the first one out.

The Model S and BMW have AWD, the Camaro wider spec racing tires... the HC? All seasons or generic Summer tires.

It is all relative.

I'll just say it again because why not.

-89-95 ish C4 vette with a factory stick (or at least a D44) for $4000 ish
-gen 4 6.0 with an LSA blower for 2 grand
-4l80e with a shift kit for $500
-$500 for fuel system
-$1000 for for exhaust and getting the engine bolted in
-$1000 for good adjustable shocks
-$1000 for miscellaneous
-$1000 for some good tires

Under $10 grand for an "older" car that will take down a hellcat.

I think that's as cheap as you will do it.
