Well, except they won't sell to me. Gotta wait until Tuesday and go through a local retailer.

But, that's OK! I soon will have a few spares now . . .
Standby Garth...i will do some homework for ya and see if i can work some magic with the branch i deal with. I will get back to you with results, or another source.

Well, it's been a while. Not bucking for sympathy but there have been so few good days with the Lupus crap that the good ones had to be spent doing actual work-work to keep the boss happy.

Trying to rip my battery/amp shelf from 12 down to 9 1/2 per the reposition of the cover idea, I put my plastic blade in the table saw which is just one of those abrasive wheels but screwed up [somehow] and let it get bound up and SNAP! So, do it twice Garth strikes again on that deal. But, I also decided to change something else and starting again from scratch allows me to do that.

That said, taking advantage on at least some sale pricing at Summit [not nearly as good as last year though], I went ahead and got the rear disk kit ordered along with a Wilwood MC and Adjustable Proportioning Valve. My factory 442 MC might have worked with just adding the adjustable proportioning valve to dial in those rears but I will admit there was a slight element of dress up involved with just getting the MC/Valve kit.

I also got the rest of what I need to finish my dual snorkel CAI. Moving the battery to the trunk and the gas fume canister slightly, I will have room for one of these on each front corner with some covers I am making.

Since I am vertically limited with the big block, I was going to fab this but decided to just bite the bullet and get one from Spectre.

And the plumbing in between.

Where are you going to run the ducts?

Well, a picture would be better than a 1000 words which I don't have yet but, the driver's side should be pretty easy with the battery gone. With the exit angle on that carb box, it is fairly straight going just behind the cruise control linkage (which BTW still works after the big block conversion) then over behind the alternator to the fender and after a 90 degree bend it's a pretty straight shot from there to the filter.

The passenger side is more tricky and especially with the fact I still have AC in the way. That tube goes down to the fender just over the heater hoses behind the AC compressor. From there it turns forward and will have just a slight squish in one spot as it passes "under and between" the two AC lines (why I got the flex tube) and then I have to reroute the gas canister hoses and the radiator overflow hose to get by them. Then with the gas fume cannister on its side and back just an inch or so, it is just over and up from there to the filter. Got those nice big symetrical oval holes that the front of these filters will sit just behind. If I discover that is a negative pressure area, I will have to create some deflectors to direct air over or up there behind the grill. The covers I am making are more just a barrier for the engine heat. Will also require some testing to make sure running into a rain storm won't be problematic? I don't know why any water would get up that high but just need to sanity check it.

BTW, I intend to move the gas fume canister back slightly and lay it over on its side. Anyone know if that is a bad idea? Otherwise, if it needs to stay vertical to function properly, getting past it on that side will be a bigger challenge.

Plan obviously subject to change . . .

From what I can tell the canister should work on it's side. If it leaks there are sideways mounted canisters out there.

Well, didn't lie. I turned wrenches but had to fix my Tacoma. Yes, contrary to the urban myth, they do break too.

Then got tied up with more yard work and got the garden harvested minus the melons of course. Such a cold May, vegetables didn't do so good this year but we are going to have melons out the wazoo! Hell, wasn't paying attention and got 2 places where melon runners have grown through the fence and there's a 1/2 dozen melons growing outside the fence. The critters will thank me, I'm sure. Deer already stripped my dwarf apple trees . . . again! Need to get that fixed too.
But, as usual, I digress . . . [sorry!]

Just today got the order from Summit . . . Wilwood rear disks, Wilwood MC/Adjustable Valve, and the CAI stuff so still time to get the rear end gutted and in the truck by Monday, take all the parts with it, and get back an 8.5 with the LPW bracing on it, blasted and coated a medium flat dark gray [should look good with the car color and all those gloss black UMI bolt up parts and LPW diff cover], and all assembled with the Wilwood conversions already on both ends. Gaud, I really really really wanted to do all of this myself [that's 3 really's!] but at a certain point you just have to accept you ain't the man you were 20 years ago and at least get "some" help.

Hard to drive a car when you're already dead! And, the rate I've been going . . . just sayin'

Don't feel bad, I'm turning 42 and I have to force myself to do basic stuff on cars and my health is good. I am selling the 88 CSC, only for my fair $1500 price just for one less broken POS. After paying $660 for custom tail pipes on my 70S, I must have misunderstood the quote, he negelected to mention $250 per side and then went $160 over it! I should have bought the Flowmaster tail pipes and fought and cried installing them, would have saved $400. I hate doing oil changes, since the warranty was up on our Challenger, I decided they can do the oil changes. My wife goes in and pays $100, they used synthetic in summer without asking in the 3.5, guess who no does the oil changes, plus the Tercel my Daughter's drive and my 3 POS. To quote a wise man, Red Green, I'm pulling for you, we are all in this together. Yes, we choose to own old junk, especially Olds powered junk🙂.

Well crap sorry to see your '88 go. I am just dying to see mine go again. Like I've said before, it's only been a little over a year here on this conversion but my god it seems like I've been saying "pretty soon" for 5-6 years. But, it is also somewhat my nature [in case you um haven't noticed?] that I am just a tad impatient with the BS beyond my control, like the lupus. I will get this on the road again though. [If I am vertical tomorrow] the rear end is loaded "in the Tacoma!" Just seeing that finally get to town would do a lot for my mood and frankly free up a lot of room in my shop [rear end and all the parts that go to town with it] to get more serious on all the other stuff with this build while it's gone.

I've asked Spectre for flow numbers on their 9824. After unboxing it, you have these huge 4" tubes going into a box that's like 2x6 in front and 2x12 in back. With air flying in from both sides it just seems like turbulence city right there in that little box trying to get down the carb. But we will see what they say?

I've been running a 2" tall 14" round open element on the big block and it does OK but, without cowl or ram air, sucking in 200 degree air cannot possibly be the best setup. But, moving the battery to the trunk got me down this path freeing up that driver's side front corner space. Would have some routing issues to overcome but I wonder if an EFI type low profile might flow better where the tubes come together and then flow into the carb cover?

The 1st airbox is similar to the one on my brother n laws camaro. It made a decent difference since it's getting fresh air from inside the fenderwells. It sounds cool too when you thump the throttle.

On the intake setup i had on the old 355 efi, it was similar to the 2nd pic. I can honestly say, going from a filter mounted directly to the throttle body to the twin cold air it made a HUGE difference. I know it was getting colder air, and it sounded awesome when idling!
