I got my motor pulled, trying to decide what cam I should get so i can get my motor in the cutlass. Im running: 75 model chevrolet 4bolt main 350, with stock pistons, edelbrach performer intake, 750 edelbrach carb, vortech heads, stock pumps. what kinda cam do i need for street use, but still getting the best economy per horsepower i can get? The car may have a camper cam in it right now, should i just leave that and if its not enough power upgrade, or should i go ahead and get a bigger cam? (price is an issue too, i cant go broke on this) the sooner i know what to do the sooner i can drive the cutlass! so Help!!!!

Well, you jokingly asked for specs on the other thread.... here's my cam specs .467 intake lift .480 exhaust lift 220/230* split duration ground on 110* centerline.

Gives a nice mild choppy idle (idles best about 1100 RPMS) and has a BROAD power-range.... 1800-5800 RPM. It has brutal midrange pulling power. I do have alot better heads than you, but I had stock heads right after my build and this cam still worked great, but the heads ran out of air after 4500, but the cam was far from done. Thus, a head swap. (DART)

Oops... just re-read your post. You have Vortec heads (decent but still not as good as DART) Sorry.... but true, lol. This cam size will work great for you.

BTW, it's a Doug Herbert grind.

lol it wasnt jokingly, i really needed em. How much was the cam itself? how do you determine what cam you need? being i have slightly less flow, do i need a slightly smaller cam? (hydralic lifter cam right? not roller?) Not an expert on cams yet, trying to learn though 😀

PM sent.

You will need a slightly smaller cam because of the Vortec heads. Not that they flow bad, but that Vortecs will only accept a max lift of .470, unless you change valvesprings. Now you're talking more money.

any other opinions?

pm replyed btw thanks for helping me out!

This will come in handy as I have the same engine...I think>>>Mine is from a Chevy truck but same year and 4 bolt main as yours.

Cool!!!!

I love the engine but have the problem of upper power band. Off the line is great and low RPMS. Upper RPMS, the car has nothing.

I almost sold the car, someone wanted to buy it and I need the money badly but I just can't give it up, my friends and family won't let me sell it, they talked me out of it. I can't even afford the collector gaskets this month, lol.

What heads do you have on it?? If they are the stock truck heads it's no wonder it sucks in the upper RPMS. Those heads are a 76cc, 1.72/1.5 valve size, with 145cc runners. A far, far, cry from performance.

A drinking straw flows more air than those things.

I'm not being a dick about my comment here either. I speak from experience.
