Cam lobe mystery......

I agree but it looks to me they are more off center than they should be...
Really the only way they could be off is if he was running a timing chain designed to run with a thrust washer and he did not install it otherwise the cam sprocket riding against the block will be the limit as to how far the back the cam goes.

Some 2 piece timing chain covers recommend cam buttons. But I guess you HAVE to use a roller cam. Lol

I wouldn't use a flat tappet cam. I have broken in engines with flat tappet and that 20 minutes is not a good time....with a roller cam there is no worry...

Yea im gonna pull the lifters tonight after work. The cam is an Xtreme Energy series from Comp Cams which I guess have a very high rate of failure due to the aggressive lobes and huge springs needed. I didn't know about that until after I bought it and I was still working part time so a roller was out of the question. Its just shitty because my tax return was either gonna be fuel injection or a roller cam. I already spent it on the EFI....

I've always used flat tappets but I also have my own tried and true routine and have not had any issues in around 20+ small blocks I've built. I use bisqueen plastic and lay it in the cam box. I then mix a bottle of Comp Cams break in lube with a quart of Comp engine oil in a pan. I then pour it into the lined box and over the cam and wrap it up. Every day for about a week, I go out and rotate the cam 180 degrees. I also soak my lifters in the same brew. Works for me. I cannot afford a roller cam and lifters. I've actually got a cam and lifters soaking that's been out there all winter because I have been a lazy *ss. Lol

EFI will be a great addition... Which kit did you get?
The FiTech 800hp MeanStreet kit. It aint a fancy tuned port setup but should still be alot better than a carb.
