I love a Qjet and an HEI dist for a stock car. Axisg made some good points and I agree with a lot of what he says. The farther out the idle mixture screws are the more fuel your are allowing in thus trying to overcome a lean condition. I really do not like an Edelbrock as it is early sixty's technology and we have to remember that fuels today are formulated for fuel injection, so that makes cold and hot soak drivability more of an issue. I used a A/F ratio meter some but mostly used an infrared measuring CO and HC. You should not need RTV on this so make sure it is the right gasket and carb/manifold fit. 10 degrees is a good starting place and close enough to start. Make sure choke is open and lets get it running good hot then we will tackle the cold issues. Stay in touch.

Don't use RTV anywhere in the intake system, gas vapors will eat it away and cause vacuum leaks.

Yes I used gaskets, and the RTV will only be on there for a week or two until I have time to get a new manifold on (I know I don't need a whole new manifold to fix the problem but I was planning on getting one soon anyways)

is the base of the carb cracked? Or is the manifold cracked?

If you had gaskets on the spacer there should not be a leak.

Did you clean the surfaces before installing the spacer?

Yes I cleaned the surfaces, I believe the adapter was defective, It seemed a little "off" If you know what I mean. I mean it wasn't the most expensive one so I wasn't expecting much in terms of quality anyways. I definitely did use the gaskets, because I realized halfway through hooking the carb up I forgot them and pulled it all off to redo it.
