OK, long story short, I wiped out the cam and four lifters in my Cutlass two weeks ago. I decided to pull the engine for a complete rebuild.

Current setup
3970010 block, four bolt mains
Stock, cast iron crank
Stock rods
Bored .030 over
Flat top pistons with four valve reliefs
462624 heads with 2.02/1.60 valves
Old school Holley street dominator intake
Edelbrock 600 cfm Carb
Unknown cam

The engine will get new rod, main, and cam bearings, new rings, and ARP bolts for the rods and heads.
I have a set of Trick Flow Kenny Duttweiller 195cc aluminum heads that will be swapped on, 195cc intake runners, 64cc combustion chambers, 2.02/1.60 valves, Trick Flow 1.5 ratio aluminum roller rockers

I am looking at a Comp Cams 280h cam, .480/.480 lift and 230/230 duration @ .050

Looking to run around 9.5:1 - 10:1 compression

What do you guys think? The engine is already out and at the machine shop, will be ordering parts in the next few days.

With the engine out, now is the perfect time to put an Olds motor in it! 😛

Should be a fun combo you've cooked up there. I'd like to do something similar with the chevy 350 in my wagon...

A wiped cam is how my 350 became a 383. The crank was scored so I had to get a differant crank anyway. And, even though they are higher priced, that's when I decided to go hydraulic rollers.

I have already been looking around for a 455 Olds to go in later down the road, so it will be Olds powered in the future.

I would love to go with a roller cam setup, but retrofit rollers are so damn expensive, and the build is going to soak up enough money as it is :x

Think I may be anywhere near 400 hp? Camquest says so, but I don't know how reliable it is :?

The 280H sounded great in my 355, especially in drive at idle it sounded pretty evil. You'll run into vacuum issues most likely, just get a vacuum cannister from a local speed shop or from Summit/Jegs. I plan to use the cam again but I will be upgrading to an 84-85 GN Hydroboost to eliminate the vacuum problem with the camshaft.

With that piston which I beleive is the same as mine, L2256 or something like that, and a 64cc head you should be in the 10:1 compression ratio ballpark too

You wouldn't happen to have any videos of it would you

I had a 280H magnum in my 388, so it was safe to say i had no vaccum issues, but with those heads i would say step it up to the 282 magnum or 292...you got some stall? also I did a retro roller conversion, you should check out howards cams i got the cam and lifters for around 500 buck and im really pleased with it.
