Chevy engine decoding

The block # is cast on the driver side rear behind the head....hope this pic helps.

Dang, hard to read...but look for where it says GM and the block id # is below that.

The passenger front of the block has a flat pad by the water pump that has a VIN & ID code stamped there.
If the numbers are still there it tells you the block hasn't been decked.

Or it's a restamp, though not as likely on a later model car as it would be on a "collector car"..

Only sure way to tell if it's been decked (by visual inspection) is looking for the broach marks. OE broaching is linear, machine shops deck with a rotary cutter.
