Chevy small block

I would scoop it up, especially if its a 4-bolt main block. I would take it apart, and have a machine shop check the bores and the damage to the crank. A 383 stoker crank is almost the same cost as a stock crank. With building a 383 you will have to get the block clearanced. It actually not that hard, and can be done with a dremmel tool. There are several videos on youtube showing how to do it.

I personally wouldn't pay anymore than $100 for a stock rebuildable old school 350 core. Especially, since you can buy a drop and go 5.3 or 4.8 ls engine for $500-$600 from your local wrecking yard. Back in the day a local junk used to sell rebuildable 350's for $70.00, intake to oil pan. Those were the days before the LS craze took hold, and scrap iron wasn't $300.00 a ton.

Doing about the same thing for my buddy right now. He bought a motor cheap that had the bottom end trashed and wanted to cheaply redo it. I found him an Eagle stroker kit for 750 shipped that comes with all you need. I've done a lot of these for customers and they've all been very happy with them. After you figure up the cost for parts, machining, and balancing, plus waiting on the machine shop at times, you can't beat the price.

IF the eagle kit comes with slugs, rods, and crank that's balanced for $750, that is a pretty good deal. You would still need to get your bores checked, and block line honed. I would also get the block zero decked so the pistons don't set below the hole at TDC. From the factory, pistons in a small block chevy always sit below the hole at TDC. That will help get the quench measurement where you want it, when you start putting parts back in it.

crotchss, I see your from Nebraska. We used to get our $70.00 350 rebuilder cores from a wrecking yard in Center, NE. All thats in that town was the county court house, and the junk yard. lol.

Thanks for your input everyone. When I get paid next week I'm going to take a ride to look at it. I called today to make sure it was still available. I also asked if he could tell me any more information about it, but other than the spun main bearing he didn't know anything.

Yes it will definitely need align honed if not align bored, depending how bad it tore up the block.
