borrowed from another forium.......58.094" from rim-mounting surface to rim-mounting surface

the best and most effective way to get this swap done is to rework the axle tubes and relocate the spring perches there is so much info on the interwebs about this swap its crazy check out baseline suspension for the swap kit it is some quality stuff i use it in my g body

I didn't change the spring perches and why rework the axle tubes?

its common practice to change the spring perches to the stock location on and you shorten the axle tubes because the rears are wider i got lucky and all that was already done to mine and it is the same length as my stock 7.5 and all the mounting points are the same. look at housings for the g bodys all the 12 bolts have the spring perches on top of the axle like the stocker. but thats just my observation and info gathering from people with 1000+hp bbcs

I have the 64-67 rear end and the 3.67 BS wheels with 245-50-17 tires that frit perfect. With the wider rear end the car is much more stable going around corners. That is one of the reasons that I chose the A body rear, the G body rear IMO is too narrow. The splines on GM axles are cold rolled so you can't cut the axle and have the splines machined. As for the spring perches there is no problem with the moog 5959 springs that I have trimmed and use the F body isolator for the open ended spring. The springs are short so I used the Bilstein AK short shocks so the spring don't fall out if I jack up the car. If there was any problem with the perches sitting a little forward a short spring aggravate the problem. JBrue has the wider A body rea in his Montee and as far as I know he left the spring purches where they are and he drags his car and has some serious power.

I doubt anyone with 1000+ hp is running an A body rear. You can try to build a 12 bolt A body rear to handle that power but it's way cheaper to go with a 9" rear.

Has anyone done this? I have a 87 cutlass I'm going to put a 406 olds stroker I'm building in my 87. I have 2 Oldsmobile A body rear ends and was wondering if anyone has converted one before. What all does it intell from installing fitting wheel spacing. Can I use my Stock olds ralleys will the spacing b different and so on. Or is it cheaper to get a 9 inch ford fitted already for a G body? Thank you.
I thought about it to.Way to wide.I ended buying a 3:73 LSD on line. You can do it if you wanna run a weak(zero)offset.Does anybody want to buy a 3:73LSD WITH Billet axles from Tom's axles from a Caprice?

The A body rear he has is not way too wide, here is JBrue's Monte with the 68 to 72 A body rear that is 4.5" wider than a G body rear

I have the '68-'72 Chevelle rear in my car. I bought the 12 bolt swap kit, upper/lower tubular control arms fromUMI Performance. Bolted right in and I did nothing with the spring perches. 15x8 wheels with 4" backspace...I think it looks like it belongs there 🙂
