Convert A body posi rear end in a G body

Seems like a lot of hoop jumping to get an axle that needs a different offset wheel, doesnt have c clip eliminators, and is too wide for the car and will require reworking to get the geometry right.
Order one of these bolt it in and never worry about the rear end except fluid changes.

why would he spend money that he doesn't have to. If you haven't seen JBrue's car that has the same width rear end as the op and JBrue only had to buy the UMI conversions uppers to install then take a read. What geometry are you taking about?

It was pointed out above to use the spherical ends to prevent binding. If it is binding, the geometry cant be that good. The mounting points for g and a bodies are different and require an adapter control arm. Or as someone pointed out moving mounting points. Just seems like a lot of extra to go through and have it possibly not turn out right. And on the other hand, you drop some coin on a pretty much bullet proof rear, with a wide array of gear ratio choices, bolt it in and commence the punishment of the tires. DO I understand budget? I overhauled my own trans because i understand budget. Would I try to use what I had? Every chance I get. In fact I have two 8.5 ten bolts out of 72 Skylarks do do one up for my A body car(Those dont grow on trees either). Bought them cheap as I knew what I wanted to do with one. But if I had the money I'd sell em both and get me some 9 inch and never worry about it again. Wife, four kids and a house note prevent me.

Would a 8.5 ten bolt work? Sure it would, but you can't just hit craigs list and scoop one up. And if you did find one it would have to be purchased, and gone through and you'd be close to my suggestion in money and not have as strong of a rear.
And you still have c-clips retaining the axle just waiting to turn loose and ruin a quarter panel and possible your and others day.

Like I posted with that rear end you only need the conversion uppers. JBrue drags races his car with that set up. I have the 64 -67 rear so I used a joint at the axle side, with the 68-72 rear end you do not need a joint. The conversion uppers have a joint so that prevents the binding. Also the op has Oldsmobile rear ends so they would not have c clips, they have bolt in axles.
