I know. Just curious if he did it. Seems like a pretty particular guy, who happens to do things properly and meticulously.

Hey! I don't call you names... 😉

I filled it with vaseline; disconnect the fuel pump and crank 'er 'till she has pressure. Or have it accidently fire like my wagon did... Simple enough.

Now if this was a high dollar fresh build I might be more inclined to use pressurized oil to get oil up into the various passages.

Not to thread jack but....

Interesting that you say this. I've been looking at priming LS engines today, my 130K unopened engine has been sitting for three years. What's your thoughts on cranking an engine sitting that long?

It'll be fine. Just prime it with the starter.

If you have an old SBC oil pump you can make a primmer very easy.

Cut the screen of the pick up off slip a hose onto the tube and put that in a bucket of oil.

Tap the output passage then screw in a hose barb.

Use some gas/oil hose from the output hose barb up to the front of the LS engine on the drivers side front there is an oil plug.

Attach it and use a drill to turn the old oil pump.

Here is a pic.... yes I am bored...winter suxx..........

Built some stands last night, and then picked up the actual-4.8L today.

Installed the balancer and pinned the crank, bolted on the valve covers and some D585 heat sink coils, the ported LS6 intake and throttle body - plus added some 80lb/hr injectors, chased all the holes in the block with a tap, put the Metaltek engine mounts on, the ICT alternator-only FEAD, the eBay turdbo headers, and test fit the janky old downpipes I made for a SBC (the PS needs some attention for the heater lines) - otherwise they should work.

Pffft!! 4.8 you say!?! Pics of the flat tops or it's just another 5.3!

You run a factory power steering setup or something custom? I have factory truck accessories and there is not much room on the drivers side. The radiant heat from those up and forward headers has to be pretty intense.

I scanned it before it was pulled, the ECM confirmed it was a 4.8L.

Just a TRZ manual rack when time/money allow.

I'll be building heat shields and wrapping the down pipes. Plus, under hood is pretty well gutted.

Are you running the spring pressures you referenced a couple of pages?
