Having two project cars simultaneously is fun isn't it...

Why do we do this to ourselves...

It is a familiar kind of suffering.

So in the interest of not resting on my butt feeling sorry for myself and accomplishing nothing. I pulled the 4.8L out of the corner, stripped it down, pulled the plugs and sprayed some WD40 into the cylinders, scraped and wire wheeled the rusty crusty block, degreased and pressure washed it, then hit it with Scrubbing Bubbles, rinsed it, quick brake cleaning, and fogged it with paint.

I call it: Plum Shitty Rurple (rusty purple).

I'll strip it down to the short block tomorrow.

Ate a jelly donut, drank some coffee, and got to work. Flat tops and the correct casting number on the crank make this a 4.8L. A little crusty inside but overall good enough. Piston tops cleaned up nicely - head gasket residue is being softened by some WD40.

The plan is now to put the TSP heads off the wagon on this thing, pop in the janky *ss custom Comp Cam I spec'd years ago, some LS7 lifters, and send it. I will be robbing a few other key parts off wagon's LS1 that recently became "available".

Purple nurple.

I spent a big chunk of the day cleaning up the garage. I decided that since I had easy access the 4.8's rocker arms I should press out the old trunions to make way for the bronze bushings. The bodies (and some other bits) are soaking in mineral spirits - I'll pop them together later this week.

I am going to be on full-time Mr. Mom duty for two full weeks effective this Friday... so I might as well tinker while I still can.

Decided the battery needed to be in the trunk now - not later.

So does this get done before or after the hell-kitty shows up? 🙂
