Twas the night before Christmas and ol' Motorhead was a grindin', when what did he hear but the horrible clatter of his air compressor a dyin'.

Damn thing blew the intercooler off the second stage cylinder head; and a new one is going to be like $200 and God only know when it will arrive after everything gets going after the holidays. FML.

I guess I am going to start working on the short block in the meantime.

Very jealous, even though you blew up your compressor. I spent the hole night with in-laws, and they all smoke but us.

Thanks man... and I grew up in a family of smokers - so that holiday "fun" is an all too familiar and thankfully distant memory.

Cleaned and prepped the short block (scraping gunk, cleaning the decks, chasing bolt holes). Then I called for my assistant. I cannot express how important it is to get their hands on things if you want them to share your passion for cars. It has to feel familiar, not foreign. And it isn't just holding wrenches and watching... they aren't any more likely to screw it up than you are. Teach them the process, explain the purpose, and let them execute. There will be a real sense of accomplishment and ownership once it comes to life.

Ported million mile LS1 oil pump and fresh LS2 timing chain.

I popped in the LS7 lifters and LS1 trays after she ran in for dinner.

Did you shim the pump to line it up?

Did you shim the pump to line it up?

That is a waste of time as GM has never done it, and the idea got started when some dummy wanted to sell you over priced shims. I do however have a SacCity Corvette AlignIt tool that centers the oil pump front cover to the crank snout... close enough.

nice job Dad.

Thanks!
