I tried selling my Camaro on FB and always wound up with people asking to either see it and never pick a time or what is the lowest I would go. I currently have spare parts im trying to sell and have it listed on both FB and CL.

I get that no matter where I try to sell stuff. When my Cutty was up for sale I had a guy message me, "How much boost will it take?" at 10.5:1 compression, not much

What bugs me the most about the "whats you lowest price" is not that it was asked but you didn't even take a look at the car. I sold it well below what it was worth but I did get the amount that I wanted for it.

With FB marketplace now, time to call CL cars for sale dead.

I HATE FaceBook and the "Marketplace" even more so. I do see there is better pricing on FB, but it is much more difficult to search and filter compared to craigslist (clist database can support wild card searches e.g. if you're looking for a camaro or you can type in Chev* Cam* and it'll pull up all Chevy and Chevrolet Camaros or the often found Camero).

Craigslist here in Colorado for buying/selling Cars and Bikes sucks too, but that has more to do with the CL culture here vs other places I've lived. I had great luck finding, buying and selling stuff on craigslist in other parts of the U.S. but here in Colorado; A##hole sellers think their junk is made of solid Gold and don't want to budge off their prices. Because it's a free posting they'll keep their trash up there for months trying to get full blown mint condition retail value for a clapped out P.o.S. I think the $5 fee is a great thing for BUYERS, especially if the posting gets limited to say a max of 2 weeks! It'll make people think twice about asking so much for their junk.

Asking high prices or being firm is fine with me. All it's doing is limiting their ability to move the item. Market sets the price. As a buyer, I just don't bother to call if its priced way out of line.
I'm the type of seller that prices things just slightly above what I'm willing to take --say 10% over. Over the years I've had decent luck. I don't mind some friendly and respectful negotiation but lowballers don't get my time.

My 2 main CL gripes are misrepresented items and dealers who spam their ads everywhere by attaching every possible tag word to their ads. I flag those if I have the time and patience.

as someone stated, I'm hoping it'll help deal with the dealer ads... the dealers are supposed to pay for bulk advertising (that's why the dealer/owner/all tabs are in the upper corner), but they all seem to post over in the private owner section and jam up any kind of search....

I did sell the explorer recently on marketplace, and yeah, you get hit with 500 "what's the lowest you'll take/ will you take $***? (usually 1/3 of what you're asking, about that point, I question their mother's virtue) I think the next car I get rid of will just go straight to the crusher......

Here's a good one... Messaged a guy with a Kijiji ad (5 hours old) last night as I felt it was too late to call. No response this morning so I call him at 10 oclock. No answer, no voicemail. So I send him another message on Kijiji with my phone number, telling him to give me a shout or I'll call him back in a while, and that I have cash in hand and can pick up today. No response, and the ad gets deleted 2 hours later. I understand this was probably sold before I messaged him the first time, but have the decency to tell me it's sold. I even would have given him more than asking price to secure the deal.

"There's no such thing as a free lunch"

This could be a good thing as anytime you have to pay to do something you'll do a Cost/Benefit Analysis, so maybe we'll see more effort of making a good ad and maybe (and here's where MAJOR optimism comes-into play) that will lead to better buyer inquiries as they realize they should really have their stuff together.

... I hope some of the more entertaining ads -- probably borne of frustration at the idiot replies -- do live on, though

Since this went into effect there's been a BIG drop-off in the local postings here. I mean BIG. From maybe dozens per day, suddenly it's down to like 4 or 5.
