CURRENT 6.0/4l80E swap parts = $$$$

Hey, FastCraig, I plan on doing the exact same swap "6.0/6l80E" in a few months. I have the engine/trans and soon order the DOD and VVT Delete Kits. I'm still up in the air over what ECU I'll use whether I use the factory ECU or aftermarket. In 2005 I used a megasquirt on a Eclipse GSX and thought it was great although, it was pretty buggy.

My new shop's construction should be over in a few months and shortly after that, I'll start the vehicle. We should keep in touch, maybe we could do our builds around the same time and at the same pace?

I was panning on doing as much of my own work as I could. Unfortunately it looks like I have back surgery in my near future. I am still planning on doing the swap but will likely have to farm most of the work out now. I am very interested in other 6.0/6l80 projects also and read every one I come across. Did you buy a swap kit or are you fabbing your own? What drove your decision to not go with VVT?
 
Thinking of doing the Intellitronix digital dash. Tired of squinting at the dimly lit stock unit.

Due to continuing back problems I have decided to not do the 6l80 and instead will do a 4l80e. I would not be able to do much of the work on the interior myself so that would become a major cost increase. I ordered a rebuilt Stage 2 4l80e with (tentatively) a yet to be determined stall. When I order my cam I'll get what their engineers recommend. The trans is being built at a small local shop by a retired GM mechanic. Total cost of the 4l80E is $1100.00 which includes the stall and cost of the used transmission and a 6 month warranty. That is a crazy price. Several places have sales going on which start at $1500 w/o the converter. 1st piece procured.

That's a killer deal! I won't even tell you what I spent.

Great decision. You listened to our advice. You will love the 4L80. They hit hard and take a lot of abuse.

I'm sure I will love it. I never had anything against using the 4l80. It just made more sense to use the engine and trans I already have. Now I have to sell my 6l80 to help cover the cost of the new transmission.
 
Is this comp Cam 54-469-11 and valvetrain worth $1600.00? 100 HP gain (505 HP) claims with just cam and valve springs? My 09 LY6 is rated at 365 HP so was the dyno run baseline of 443 HP with an LQ9 cam actually starting with a stock motor? I'm not looking for 505 HP on my stock motor but if I can get 100 HP with thae torque curve in the video I would be extremely happy. Would you install a 600+ lift cam in your motor with only new springs?

The first cam I put in my 6.0 was very close to those specs. It was too big for real street duty. I have a 3400 stall converter and it still bucked pretty good around 1600rpm. My motor is essentially the same as your LY6, a 6.0 with 823 heads and NNBS intake with 92mm 4 bolt TB.


I got the cam for $160USD as a very low hour take out, and a set of BTR 0.660" springs was like $300ish (dont remember).

Idle was 900 rpm, it didn't have the off throttle snap my BTR stage 2 has and top end would not be optimal with a long running truck intake.

I think you would be just as happy with something in the 22x/23x 0.580" lift area. Mine pulls WAY harder in the lower and mid rpm range and idles at 750.

An Elgin 1839p or 1840p is cheap and only needs pac 1218 springs to be a proven winner combo.
