Paint done yet?
Unfortunately, no. It's still in paint jail. I keep hoping for progress pics and good update. It hasn't been the same experience we had on the Camaro.

So I'm happy to say everything is on track on getting the Galaxie painted. There has been some lack of communication/miscommunication but everyone is on the same page now and the project is moving forward. Significant progress has been made. As you saw earlier in the thread, the painter disassembled the car back at the end of January. It went into high build primer on March 21st......

From there, it went to the body-man's shop. The painter didn't feel comfortable doing the final body work and blocking on this goliath since it will be black. His day job is in a production collision repair shop. He farmed out the final body work to a colleague of his that has 45 years of experience. Evidently the body-man put a good 80-90 hours of labor into it and it really shows. Here are some pics over at his shop....

The car went back to the painter's house last Thursday.....

Dad, Sean and I went over to see it yesterday. There's been some great work done to the car. It looks really, really straight. We are all excited. The body-man adjusted the doors and helped them. The gaps are the best I've seen them and probably better than any other 62 Ford Galaxie….

As I mentioned much earlier on in the thread, the car suffered collision damage at the rear of the passenger quarter. If you remember, Dad actually went through the metal getting it back into shape and we put a patch in where it was so thin. I'm going to put in a quote from that post for anyone that wants to go back and look at it...

Had a good day on the Galaxie yesterday. We knew we wouldn't be working on it today because of Mother's Day so we pushed hard yesterday to finish the last patch. There was old collision damage at the end of the quarter over the bumper. Dad got it pretty straight but he actually hammered through the metal in some places. Some of the metal was just barely thicker than aluminum foil. It was way too thin to weld up. He also had some of it pushed out too far to the point that it was a high. We took a less is more approach as we have with the rest of the repair and only cut away what we had to. Here is a look at what we decided on...

I didn't get a picture of the patch fit up before welding but here it is welded in, all the grinding done and dressed with 80 grit DA paper. It turned out well. There was some tin foil metal at the back edge that did a lot of burning up but I overcame it....

The metal work is finished. It's kind of a shame. I feel like we just now are getting good at it. I'm handing it off to Dad and Sean to do the body work. They will prime the rocker, quarter and door jamb. They have quite a bit of seam sealing work. They will work the repair seams with Evercoat metal to metal and then do finish work with the rage extreme. They also have to refinish the inner edges of the rocker, wheelhouse and trunk drop off where we cleaned it up for welding. They have probably four weekends of work but I will be checking in and updating this thread. Dad is happy. He knows it's going to happen and for my brother and I, that's what its all about.

Even after all that work, the quarter was still pushed in a bit from being hit from behind. The body-man pulled that back and has it meeting the decklid so much better. The car looks really straight...

The painter is going to start taping the car back up. He's going to hit it with another round of high build primer and then body-man is going to come over and block it out again. He's got some of himself in this project at this point so he wants to do the final blocking before the car goes to paint. Everyone is happy with where the project is and it sounds like the car will be in paint and reassembled in the next month or so. I'll update as progress merits. That's it for now friends.

That bodywork voodoo.... I have a hard time looking at all those colors and seeing a straight panel. It looks like you're in good hands.
Yeah, the different colors dazzle the eye a bit, but when you look down the side it's pretty impressive. I'm looking forward to seeing pics in high build.

Guys you don't do bodywork with your eyes alone. It's feal.
The black paint will tell our eyes the story in the end.

Patiently waiting the outcome on this. It's been waaaayyy too long. I just hope the outcome will be worth the wait. Justin is a great painter, and Scott an equally great body man. I hope my crystal ball is correct... I can see a beautiful black Galaxie sitting next to Sean's Camaro, with your family rallying around a certain Grand Prix that has been begging for some attention. With (2) cars outta the way, there's only one left...
