Not sure what motor you have in your car, but I would suggest looking at the price of a new crank before having it turned. As crazy as that sounds cranks are cheaper new in some cases than the cost of having them turned.Well I finally got the engine out and over to the shop. As soon as I set it on the stand and began turning it over to pull the pan off I heard that signature clunk. Sure as sh*t the oil pickup broke off of the pump. Sheared the hold down bracket right off. Kinda bittersweet since I was finally right about something but still...
Pulled a few rod caps and while the bearings were sh*t the crank looked good. The mains were another story. It will need cut to say the least. I only pulled the #1 and #2 mains since they are the farthest from the pump. Lifters look good, cam lobes look good and im really holding my breath on the rest of the cam. I will know more next wednesday since im only working on it on my off days.
Hopefully you get away with min. damage! I know you have your priorities set (which I admire) so I hope you can find the time and cash to rectify the problem. I posted - ENGINE FINALLY QUIT - last year and the only thing I could salvage were the heads after some valve replacement.

Holy broken parts, Batman! Did that thing see 12,000 rpm for about 5 seconds, or what?! Did you find the root cause of the failure?
He has an aftermarket 4.25 stroke crank in a 496 BBC so I think it will be getting turned. Not sure what motor you have in your car, but I would suggest looking at the price of a new crank before having it turned. Yea I understand that's the reason I was saying check the price on a new one. I ran into the same situation, but mine was just a stock motor and there aren't as many shops turning cranks down here anymore because they are cheap. I hope it works out for you.At this point im not sure what im going to do with the crank. It would have to be sent out to get turned since thats the only thing my buddies shop doesnt do. That means I have to pay for the ride both ways, the $175 (iirc) fee to turn it and then get it rebalanced once it's back. I will have easily $400 in it.
It sucks that you don't have someone local that can turn it, I don't know how far you are from Fostoria OH. but I dealt with Shaftech years ago and had an externally balanced Callies crank converted to internal and they did an excellent job.
