Ebay Q-Jet, should I?

I wound up going with that carb (second one) as it is 100% the same as mine, just dirty and not broken. I'm going to clean it up, and run it around the block a couple times, let it warm up, and see what if anything (fully assume it needs at least gaskets) needs immediate attention. Worse comes to worse, combine the two and keep the rest just in case. Wish me luck!

I saw it sold- you got it? Good. Yeah, it's dirty all right, but that can be fixed. Just give it a good EXTERNAL cleaning and try it out. It may run great. If not, then you can open it and learn all about Q-jets. After all, you have us here to help. What could go wrong?????

Cliff Ruggles has a great book on Q-jets. It's in full color too. 😀

I bought that book a while ago. Maybe I'll give it a read finally! just been so busy over the summer.

Something I should warn you about- whenever a carburetor is turned upside down, it might flood. What happens is the float gets stuck in the full open position. It is worst with the Rochester 2 barrels because there is a "float drop" spec that few bother to adhere to. It can happen to the Q-jet too. Easiest way to see if the float is stuck is to blow through the gas inlet and make sure it opens and closes as it should. If it is stuck open shaking it may work, but usually you need to open it up to free it.

I have always rebuilt my own quadrajet carburetors, but when I bought my last Cutlass, the carburetor was so messed up I decided to go with one that was professionally rebuilt. I found this vendor on eBay and bought a rebuilt carburetor from him.

I installed it and it was in perfect adjustment. I have had the car for 3 years and it starts and runs like a new car. It looks like they have cut back on the rebuilt carburetors they offer, but they are good people and were very helpful to me.

a lot of people roll with 1970's chevy 350 carbs and disregard the computer system. You don't have to buy a numbers matching Q-Jet if you just need it to run.
