I have an Edelbrock with a 200-4r and am thinking about going back to the quadrajet. I have had good luck with the Edelbrock carbs but if you start watching videos on how to tune the quadrajet carbs you might change your mind about swapping. If you want to swap and get rid of the computer you will have to get a hei distributor that isn't computer controlled, you will need a squarebore to spreadbore adapter to mate the new carb to the stock manifold, and the TV cable corrector. Here's a link for the TV corrector https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sox-as5-05k

I would personally stick with the Q-jet. I had gone back to a Q-jet after using a Holley for many years. No regrets. Once you have it properly rebuild, you won't be disappointed.

The Q jet is a better carb. I tried an Edelbroke on an Olds 350 and could never match the performance, driveability or economy of a Q Jet. I also had flooding issues with the Edelbroke. I agree with the others that you should re build the Q jet or find a good Q jet replacement for your 305. I cringe when I watch this ignorant PN video comparing an Edelbrock to a Q-Jet. "They don't really have that set CFM that you think of"....That is the beauty of the Q-Jet design! Clearly they are being paid to advertise for Edelbroke. Get this book and re build it yourself. You will have glad you did. Oh yea....Welcome to the forum. Looks like your very first post.

It's not just about the pivot arm length, the distance from the cable bracket and the linkage matters. Bowtie Overdrives makes a nice setup. A little bit spendy but their geometry is correct.

Replace the carb with a quality rebuilt one

Unless you want to replace the distributor, and install a lock up kit for the trans,

Reach out to techg8 on this site

I don't plan on replacing the distributor,,,is that something I need to do?
