Edelbrock RPM Intake fitment on 79 Cutlass

It should still fit, pretty sure guys have ran it with the Qjet and 455 with a Performer in a G body which needs a 2" filter. He can probably use s 3" filter but it will be very close to the hood.

The 2" filter works with a drop base, but the time I used it was with a "no choke" holley. I used it with a Victor manifold w/ nitrous plate under a stock s10 hood. They do make 2.5" filters. I will experiment with 2" / 2.5" / 3" pieces of ??? (roll bar padding) in between my air cleaner lid.

RPM is going to be even taller than the GM midrise I had on a sbc in my 78. Mine had no room for a drop base with a no choke horn Demon. Hadda cut a h o l e in my aluminum hood😢

That sucks. Thanks for info. Cutting isnt an option and if my set up wont allow it then I'll just stick with the A4. I'm ok with getting smaller cleaner and filter.

You testing soon? Also, what carb will you be using?
Probably not soon enough for you. I'm dropping the engine at the machine shop tomorrow. So it will be a little while ( you know how it goes at the machine shop ). I have Edelbrock AVS 2 650 / Q Jet / Holley 750 vacuum carbs to choose from. I'm hoping the drop base w/ 2.5" filter will work. My body bushings will be new, so the car will sit up nice an straight also.

A sbc is NOT an Olds V8, totally different. A 14" drop base is needed, you may need the 2" or 2.5" filter to clear. What are specs of your 350?

I know they are different. What year cutlass did you did you put the rpm intake on?

I have no idea how the RPM Intake fits into the 78-81 cars. However, I can tell you that what you propose will not fit in the later cars! The hood won't even come close to fitting with 442 dual snorkel intake (I tried).

I have the SBO RPM intake and there was no way the stock air cleaner was working. I'm running the SNIPER EFI with their drop base (1" IIRC) and I have a 3" air cleaner and this just fits, the lid almost touches the hood. I replaced my body mounts last year and I can tell you with the worn out stock rubber mounts I'd have to run a 2" filter. I'm not sure what the difference in height is for Qjet vs the Sniper, but I'm going to guess they're pretty close to the same height. I eventually would like to swap over to flow through lid and k&n filter, but to test fit I bought a cheap 2" and 3" paper filter ($8 ea) with a cheap chrome lid.

My 88 Cutlass Supreme Classic Brougham. As said, a 3" filter just clears on the later cars with the 1" drop base 14" air cleaner. Even if a 2.5" filter is needed, an air flow top can be used. There is some argument on where an Olds 350 benefits from a RPM intake. Some have gained at the track with a Vin 9 307, another 9 to 1 Olds 350 lost mph and ET track with the RPM over the Regular Performer. The A4, well any stock intake actually and Performer have a small plenum. I liked a 1" open spacer whether for a carb or the factory 454 to Qjet 1" spacer running TBI on the Olds powered 4x4. I am running a 1/2" thick open gasket on my 88 with the stock iron intake. I have the 1" open spacer on my Performer on my 70S.

I'm running a performer with a 403 and stock air cleaner. I was wanting to run a 1" spacer, but even that won't let the air cleaner clear the hood insulation. I'd like to get a little more volume in the intake, but curious how to make is work without choking the air cleaner down too much.
