Efi in the aftermarket

FiTech is the best bang for the buck when it comes to affordable EFI on older engines right now. I have the 800hp MeanStreet kit on my 496. Bought everything new and I have maybe $1500-1600 in it total.

The new Summit line and the Holley Sniper are basically copies of the FiTech units also.

F.A.S.T. has been doing fuel injection for years

The new generation of bolt on fuel injection has made huge strides in the last few years and would be great for most hot rodders. The one thing I would really want is the ability to tune on a laptop and data logging for any system I myself would purchase. Make sure the kit includes a wideband 02 also.

I believe the Sniper is the old MSD system with some changes. It is the best economy system out there. The Fitech supposedly blows and there has been issues. The Summit system has no timing control, EFI won't work as well without it. Having a good efi tank and fuel pump are a must before installing.

Disclaimer: I know what I'm about t o promote is very obsolete technology.

You might keep an eye out for an old Holley Pro-Jection kit. I installed a few back in the day. They're a really basic TBI system that used oem GM sensors with an adjustable controller. They've been superseded several times but used systems pop up on CL and at swap meets from time to time. Usually in the $250-400 range for the complete system.
If you're at all familiar with GM TBI systems it would feel really familiar.

I'd stay away from any of the old style injection systems, they are a nightmare to tune in any real capacity. My neighbor just bought a 69 Camaro with the first gen Edelbrock Pro Flo EFI, it comes with a hand held programmer to make changes. BUT you can't read an O2 sensor, tune in any areas, log anyhting, you can only increase or decrease fuel in certain areas at what would be your best guess without a map to read. He asked me to tune it, I told him to leave it be unless he was ready to swap out the ECM for something else.

I'd read the same about FITech, no real solid installs or real world experience that says anything good that I could find.

There is way more positive out there than negative when it comes to FiTech. No issues here.

I've heard too many negatives about the various aftermarket EFI systems so do not believe them to be very reliable . Too many stories of parts failing within a few hundred miles. Strangly, people seem to be OK with that too cuz the makers of the EFI system send them out replacement parts for free. Whoopti freaking doo! Another made in China part to replace my other made in China part! Certainly worth the down time and the PITA of being stranded somewhere cuz a part that shouldn't have failed did!!!

I would like to go EFI, I can swing the cost. I just don't trust them. And even if you have one running great, how long will it last before bigger and more expensive parts start to fail? Too soon to tell if these things can take the rigors of daily driving for a long period of time.

Sounds like a parts trust problem. I'd say for you Megasquirt would be the way to go, a little more work on your end BUT you could use all the factory parts you want on the hardware side and use their ECU for the electronic part, your laptop for tuning. I can't count the tens of thousands of miles I have put on them, love them to death. I've had cars that I have torn out the factory ECU, rewired the engine, tuned it with only a wideband O2 on back roads, then driven them across country while getting better HP/TQ and fuel economy than the factory thought about.

Don't get me wrong, it's not that I don't like it but for what I look for in the system I believe there are better options and those are because of my knowledge and background building with them.

I'll bow out of this thread, I'm pretty passionate about certain systems based on their abilities, I tend to badmouth drop on, do it all systems.
