Could be the beginning of an ignition issue. I had the same issue a few months back. Caused me to research mine and i learned that my msd 6al was counterfeit....bought new Summit dizzy, made by msd, a new msd 6al digital and wires. Woke the monte up, the way it runs now..total new beast. Moral of the story, don't cut corners on ignition.

Could be the module in the HEI but it usually wont start right back up till it cools.
Check the wires going into the module. These cars are 30+ yrs old. mine were frayed to sh*t and I was surprised it still ran 😛

I had that problem with the module overheating and it turned out to be a defective coil
