Well, people are never going to give up their air conditioners, so i guess they're thinking they have to cut emissions somewhere, whether it makes a discerneble difference or not.

joesregalproject : that's a major yikes....nobody wants that situation. Pretty good example of what a totally unregulated industry looks like. On the other hand, regulating them until they were no longer able to compete globally and running them out of business didn't do much good, either.

pontiacgp : I don't disagree, but the average person really doesn't give a flip as long as they can get heated and cooled seats, navigation, wifi and bluetooth in their new Lexus. Don't know about Canada, but the vast majority of US citizens long ago became sheeple.

Simple answer is, TOO MANY PEOPLE on this 'ol rock.

actually it's not too many people on this rock, livestock are responsible for 18 per cent of the greenhouse gases that cause global warming, more than cars, planes and all other forms of transport put together. And then there is the sun which is warming up not only earth but all the other planets as well. The sun has the greatest affect on our climate and we have no control over it.

Even if something happens our cars would be grandfathered. We really shouldn't have been touching are emission systems from the 70's and that hasn't stopped anyone. Can't imagine how or how much it would cost to even try to enforce it.

If this even passed, which is a low to zero chance, These cars would definitely have to be grandfathered in, and as far as enforcement goes, I believe as per the Constitution, it would be entirely up to the states, given it would be probably be funded by the federal government. Currently emissions laws and testing are run and enforced by the states. I think it would be a violation of the 10th amendment as emissions testing and enforcement is a reserved power of the states, isn't it?

I'm not proposing that cars run with no emissions but with my 355 roller with vortec heads which has an EGR and two spun cats I would put money on it that it put out less emissions than my car did out of the showrroom. At 65 mph I'm getting over 26 mpg and my 5th gear is .67 so it's the same as the 200 4r in 4th. My 305 never came close to that mpg. Most of the upgraded engine we stuff in these cars are more efficient than the stock 305 that came with these cars and the oil we use is more refined than the oil back in the 80's.

Beat me to it. I saw Freiburger posted this on the Roadkill Facebook page. Pretty interesting. As I replied there, I hope this is just a heinous oversight or lack of understanding of the aftermarket auto industry and racing world, and not a deliberate attempt to sabotage such a huge industry/hobby/field/whatever. That would be, well, weird. i.e. the whole thing was drawn up by pencil pushers without the proper insight. In any case, stuff like this is the real purpose of "industry lobbyists" and with any luck it can be amended or modified or something.

6.2L Detroit Diesel, Banks turbo kit and a T-56! How could that qualify as a race car? I could put some Oldsmobile stickers on the air cleaner...
