Exactly. Very hard to get rid of and I didn't have them before. Those are the seeds and they can remain viable for up to 7 years so I'll be working to eradicate them for years to come.

Wow that definitely looks like a nuisance at best ! We use to have a similar thing in fla , they were called sand spurs . Very difficult to get rid of ! Burning seem to be only thing that worked back in the late 70,s

I still hate it but I've got a couple ideas to try to make it look a bit better. And I still don't know how much it's going to end up costing me.
 
Suggestion: put some plastic sheet or weed cloth on the back before you backfill to keep the weeds from sprouting through the gaps. Maybe a perforated drain pipe down at the bottom to route any runoff out the end of the wall.

Even better, tilt the blocks so they push back on the berm...oh wait...the photo...
