back in 83 or 84, going through driver's ed, the school system usually had cars from the local dealerships, and when I went through, they had pontiacs. for the basic stuff the had cars like the T100(chevette) and phoenix(citation) but they had a couple of bonnie's and a grand prix for the road training. I fell in love with the car and knew I wanted one at one point in my life... fast forward to 1995, and came apon a clapped out 83 GP, with a knock, and what I still think was either just low compression or a stopped up cat conv..... wasn't able to really drive it long, and didn't really have the funds to delve deeper into it...made a deal with my brother-in-law, and as always when dealing with scunbag in-laws, I got screwed over on it, and after a long series of promises, etc, his mother sold it off to a scrapper..... fast forward to 3 years ago, and I dragged my current GP (Chief S*#%ting Bull) home, and was tempted once to sell him. I've had mt Regal for around 17 years now, and the Cutty (a long story for another day) for around 5 now...

The first Gbody I ever had that I built an engine for was my hardtop 81' Regal with a 400 SBC and a couple years later I bought my current 83' Monte CL so I could clean it up and flip it but after having a few t-top cars I really liked the power sunroof in the Monte and since at the time I couldn't afford to keep both cars I decided to keep the Monte and sell the Regal but only after stealing the interior and engine out of it and putting a good running 350 and a junkyard interior in the Regal.
Now after many years of building the Monte I decided I wanted to build another Regal as a cruiser and bought a 86' a couple years ago and have been slowly working on it to fill the void left from selling my first one.

Great stories here! I began working at age 15 because I wanted to save for a car so badly as my dad had a Olds Delta 88. At age 18, a few days after high school graduation,
I walked into a Pontiac dealership and asked the price on a brand new black 1985 Grand Prix LE. The salesman sort of blew me off to the point that I walked out pissed. Later that night, I spoke with my dad and since I had half the money saved (5k) he agreed to co-sign for me and we went to another Pontiac dealership about 15 miles away. The following day with my dad, I picked out my dream car and drove it out of the show room a few days later. My first stop was at the original Pontiac dealership that blew me off. The expression on the salesman and managers face was memorable😂
I had the car for 3 years even while stationed stateside at 2 different Army bases(Colorado and Virginia), I went overseas and left it home (NY) for 2 years. In total I had the car for 10 years and sold it with about 75,000 miles. I have always regretted it and 10 years ago I picked up a gold 1985 Grand Prix LE with 48,000 original miles in awesome condition. I have kept the car stock as it’s just a preference, my Dad is still with me 👍 and this time around, I won’t be getting rid of it !

Doesn't look like much, but it had a solid frame, two usable quarters and a rust-free floorpan and rocker panels. I could not get anyone interested in it locally FOR FREE. So I cut out the firewall to save the AC system and left it at the landfill (back in the days when they took (mostly) whole cars for free). I imagine a few Canadians would have given me a CAD grand for the shape the body was in if I could have magically transported it up there.

I can't say much, but i still have my g body, my first car. On it's 3rd engine, 4th Th350 (craigslist $50 transmissions 😛), and 2nd rear end, 3rd front bumper. 98,8xx miles now, 84,*** when I got it in 2014. I've contemplated about selling it and almost sold it a few times. Everytime I published the ad, I couldn't bring myself to sell it. I had it and my '70 thunderbird on Cl at the same time. Whichever car sold I was gonna use the cash to fix the other. Had the regal as a roller for $1500+ a 99% complete SBB and TH350, and my tbird with a bent pushrod and top end dissasembled for $1000. Sold the t bird, and got a call about the regal a day later as I was taking the ad down. I really miss that t bird, but it was a pile. I've never seen another one like it in real life before or since. I've seen a '67, but not the "bunkie bird" style 70/71.
Awesome story! And i'm glad you kept the Regal! That dark plum color is awesome!

Absolutely Love your story!! WOW!! I would have done the same thing, just to see their faces!! LOL!! Love it! Beautiful car!! ...And THANK YOU for your service !!

My first one was a 78 Malibu Classic 2 door 350 (originally LG3 305 2 barrel) 4 speed, bucket seats, console, gauge package, F41. Two tone blue. Paid $900 for it in 1991. Drove it 2 years and beat the balls off of it. Blew up 2 engines, 1 gear box, 1 rear. I was living at home and my parents were tired of me constantly borrowing their cars because mine was broken. I bought a new car and sold it cheap to a couple guys I knew who parted it out because my parents didn't want it sitting around. I do not have any pictures of it. It looked identical to this one except the paint was flat with no shine and it had a set of 15x7 rally wheels.
