G-Body? No.. I never owned one prior to my current '86 GP.

Other cars? Absolutely.

1978 Trans Am.. 30 over 400, full roller, 6X heads, headers, dual flowmasters, Built TH350, 3.73 rear. FUN car, but we had bets on the body falling off of it (Rust bucket). It was one of those you look at an go.. "Okay" then fired it up, and suddenly they wanted no part. I pulled the drive train for a....

1968 GTO with all the options of a Judge, but Judges didn't exist in 68 (First year of a Judge was 69). Project never got complete. Guy walked up and offered me enough for it on the spot without the drive train (I made $3k for a title swap and an interior install) and still had the 78 T/A drive train. (Eventually sold the 400, Built TH350 and the rear for $4k)

The sentimental one, tho... 1972 Cutlass Supreme.. 455, TH400, Posi Rear (I was too young to know what gears were in the rear, but it was posi). A friend and I built it... it was his... he went into the service and left the car with me. I was stupid and sold it. To this day, I swear, if I ever have the money, Im going to buy him one.. Big life regret there.. almost lost a friend. 28 years later, we're still good tho.. He does hit me with it once in awhile tho.. and honestly, I would do the same if I was in his shoes.

One I will always miss is the white 83 T type I owned. It was super minty clean with a fresh paint job. I learned a difficult lesson I still remember to this day. I was driving through a light that had just turned green and a 2500 GMC in the left hand turn lane pulled in front of me. After I fixed the damage at my cost I sold the car to recoup what I could. White Regals are my weakness!
Sounds like a beautiful car you had!! The white is a great color, especially if you have the black out package, it just pops! The 83 T type is a rare car nowadays with only a little over 3700 made. I own a maple red 83 T Type, awesome cars! Thanks for sharing!!

Great story, and sounds like you have a great friend too! Thanks for sharing ! Beautiful 86 GP!

TITLED (BAD Decision)Yes, back around 1991 or 1992 I was given a 1983 Monty Carlo from a fellow circle track racer and was about a month or so into the build and met my current wife and that was the end of my racing career as a driver. I was not thinking with the right head when I scrapped the car rather than giving it back to the guy who gave it to me! I also made an enemy!

I was working in Florida, and was driving my truck, and decided I needed a car to drive. Flipping through the local paper, I ran across an ad for an 85 Olds Cutlass Salon for $2800. I called, and found out it was a 442, sold new at Royal in Sarasota. Went over after work, and found out "another caller was on his way to look at the car too". Thought it was a ploy, but if I were to buy it, it would be on the car's merits. They repainted the car and put clear over everything, including the stripes. OMFG. Anyway, that wasn't a dealbreaker, and the car was rust free and solid front to back, so I put 2300 under the wiper and let it sit there as we talked. He mumbled a bit, kept saying he couldn't take less than 2500 for it, and as we talked I kept watching him avert his eyes to the stack of cash every now and again. I kept mentioning that it was going to need tires and belts/hoses. He then reached for the money and said WTH. I used it as a DD for the longest time. Didn't do much to it, but did amass a truckload of parts to restore it too. But then decided to sell it to make some room for the 87 442 I ended up buying. Had 135K miles on it. I don't officially regret selling the car, but I often wonder "what if" sometimes. It sure was a good, solid base.

My first Malibu was the 78 above. My dad and I got it as a project car in 1989. It was a 305/4 speed, non AC car. It went through a few versions but always kept the factory Saginaw and shifter in it. I had a 3.42 10 bolt out of a W-30 cutlass and a 355. First version was a B&M 144 blower 8.5-1 engine, then after issues with the blower, gave up with it and went to a 10.7-1 357 with a .533/.555 250/260 solid flat tappet cam engine that made 465 hp. I sold it to my dad in 1998 when I got my red 70 Chevelle because I always wanted a 70. After a falling out, my dad sold the car to someone in Massachusetts and even though I talked to the new owner 1 or two times I lost track of the car and could never find it again. Fast forward to 2011 I tried to find it again with no luck. I tried again a few years ago and heard that the car had been sold in the new England area and had bounced around but no leads. I gave up finding it and bought my 80 that I have now. The 78 was pretty cool being I had it around the time the G-body had started to gain popularity and there was not much available for them. My dad modified a Lakewood scatter shield to fit in the stock location with the stock linkage. He filled in the original fork hole, moved it lower, and moved the pivot ball location so that the factory fork would work.
