A few years ago I sold my 81 Regal w/21,000 mi. Was going to turn it into a drag car but it was so perfect I decided to sell it. Only got $3500 for it. I love the truck but given another chance I'd have 2 Regals

Awesome story! And i'm glad you kept the Regal! That dark plum color is awesome!
This is the original color. 1st pic is in the shade with a flashlight, 2nd is in sunlight at about an hour before sunset during summer. The drivers side was hit by a plow before I got it, so the door skin and rear 1/4, maybe the front fender too were replaced. The car is like 4 different colors but are all faded. At times it looks brown, black, red, purple, maroon, etc. Kinda depends on how much sunlight.

defiantly a beautiful color! 🙂

OH WOW! Thats a great story! U had a 81 Le mans TOO! Was yours a 2 or 4 door? Mine was 4 door...it was a KKOOL car!! One year only front end on those too 🙁
My first car was an 81 Grand Le Mans. 4 Door V8, dark blue. Manual everything, am radio. I bought in in 89 when I was in college, traded it in for a brand new car in 92. Overall I loved it. It could move me and all my student stuff every year. Loved the dark blue. I blacked out parts of the grille. The downside...Rust holes down the middle of the hood and bottom of the doors. Spent money on a cat, fan, fuel line, exhaust pipes, shocks, brakes, oil, a lot of gas, all a bit much for three years on a student budget. Also the V8 was getting sluggish. And all the moving wore out the plush upholstery. In hindsight, yeah, wish I had the money, time and space to keep it. So a couple of years ago I bought the 87 Cutty which brings back memories of my Dad's 78 light blue Grand Prix, the car I learned to drive on. I'm amazed at how much better shape my Cutty is in at 32 years than my Grand Le Mans was at eight years.

Believe it or not - I don't regret selling this:

Not even in the slightest. It was fun for what it was - but was going to cost as much to fix what was wrong with it as I sold it for. Did Drag Week and built the wagon with the money. I rest my case.

One I will always miss is the white 83 T type I owned. It was super minty clean with a fresh paint job. I learned a difficult lesson I still remember to this day. I was driving through a light that had just turned green and a 2500 GMC in the left hand turn lane pulled in front of me. After I fixed the damage at my cost I sold the car to recoup what I could. White Regals are my weakness!
