Is this race ever going to happen?
Yeah we've ran into some mishaps latey and haven't really had a good weather weekend. I just put a 700r4 into my olds for the OD and he put a holley 770 street avenger on his car. i went with .75 jets and hopefully before snow we can get to the track.

hmmm, we are only hearing one side of the story, I wonder is dad's version would be the same....

Whats that supposed to mean? Lol. Neither one of us are scared of going. Nys Weather and both our jobs arent really allowing us time. I dont want to race till 1am. Drive two hours home. Then wake up at 7 on saturday to work lol

Okay, the race happened. But some variables have changed. We went 1/4 mile. And I got a new motor. That he and I both agreed on. Bored a 350 .040 over. 10:1 compression. Stock rods and crank. 062 vortec heads. Comp cams xe268. 1.5 roller tip rockers. Weiand stealth intake and an edelbrock 600. Blew the 700r4 so I put a race set up 700r4 in it with a ratchet shifter. I hooked hard off the line and after the 60' I could see his whole car in my mirrors. I ran a 13.77 at 99 and he ran a 15.7 at 85

OK, I know I'm way late on this response but....

With what you have in your 350 it should be both quicker and faster. Some tuning should get you where you should be I'm sure. Your dads car though is a flat out turd! Sorry but 15.7@85? Was he running with half of the plug wires pulled? I would have beat him in my car when I still had the STOCK 307 ( 15.54@88 ) and that ain't right! There is something really wrong with that setup. With it being that slow you and your car that much faster, you could easily tell just by cruising around that you would have smoked him without even having to go to the track  .

Side note/digression: I didn't realize the stock 307 could do that. I'd heard something in the mid-16s or so (?) in a G-body... There were NO changes at all? Not even a true-dual exhaust, different gearing, or anything. when you did mid-15s?

Uh, I assume this was an HO 307...

He had real low compression on two cylinders. Dont remember how low off the top of my head. He has the motor apart now and is trying to make it faster than my 350. He's doing a new cam. 1970 stage one heads, and new pistons about 9.6:1 compression. I still think I'll have him. Someone told me to try a 650 double pumper to try to make a better time. They think I'm leaning out in the top end

It shouldnt take much for him to beat you. Im with DoubleV there are some major issues with his combo.

Yeah the stock 307 in my 442. It had an upgraded exhaust ( not quite true duals but no silly crossover pipe BS either ) and I removed the air pump and that stupid charcoal filled ring in the air cleaner. That's it. 15.54 in drive, on street tires. That was my only run of the day too and my first time racing at the track ever. No reason to think I could'nt have gotten that time down some more....

Just goes to show how restricting the stock crossover pipe setup really is. What a horrible design that was.
