Exactly.Built a 403 years ago and had a vacuum leak on the back endrail.Nothing I hate more than re-doing something I should have done right the first time.

The dimples make sense. I don't think I've seen that before either or if I have it's been a long time. Do you also dimple the intake?

What's the purpose of the dimples? To give the RTV something to grab? I haven't seen that before.

The dimpling practice was started after people stopped using the end gaskets. I do the block and intake

for the front upper A arms I would suggest to replace the grease fitting with 90° zerks in the rear and a 45° or 90° in the front pointing up to make it easier to grease them after they are installed

A couple of questions for you guys.Engine we bought came with a used BBC oil pan,go figure.I have a nice used 403 pan I can use from a T/A.Dug it out today and has no baffle in it at all.Should I use it or buy a n aftermarket pan.I know you can buy an aftermarket baffle that bolts between the block and oil pump.Is it really nessasary to have a baffle in it.Will be buying a new Melling hv pump,it came with a hokey chinese one,not using it for obvious reasons.

Question #2...also found a Dick Miller aluminum valley pan in the basement too.Not using the standard stock turkey tray, buying some quality intake gaskets.Need to install the valley tray before I get the block degreased because of drilling and tapping the block and also mocking it up for any fine grinding work to clear all the pushrods before putting it back together.Any thoughts on the valley tray?

What intake will you be using?

The valley pans don't work with the Performer intakes.

Also has there ever been issues with the 2 and 4 bearing valleys after drilling them?

Heat issues or weakening of the block?

I have only built 1 Olds engine and that was a 350.

Never messed with a 403 always heard they were not worth the headache when I was building Pontiacs since the 403 showed up in the Firebirds

Its an RPM intake and building an Olds 350. I think the holes are only 1/8",should be a non issue. No headaches with a 403 for a street motor,I have owned several.Anyone with firsthand experience on these questions?Might post a separate thread later today.
