A body from '78-'81. G body from '82-'88. The GM FWD intermediates that were introduced for the 1982 model year (Chev Celebrity, Pontiac 6000, Cutlass Ciera, Buick Century) took over the A body designation in 1982, so the RWD intermediates became G bodies that year.

I like that answer best, rather refer to it as a G-Body. Don't really hear many ever refer to those as "A-Bodies" . . .
