Scott,
I too would have thought that this particular channel would have been used on several different models of GM cars. But GM is no stranger in making parts that are proprietary to one particular model and type of vehicle. Although many parts do interchange, you'll always have that one odd part that is specific to that car only.
I wouldn't be opposed to buying B-body wagon run channel if I knew some of it would work. I also wouldn't be squeamish about cutting off the required pieces that were needed.
The way I look at it, someone out there makes the correct profile channel. The stuff from Restoration Specialties will most likely work. Although not a perfect match, but we might have to draw the line somewhere. Having a shop or company specially extrude a particular channel is kinda crazy. First off, it wouldn't be cost effective unless there was a great demand for it.
Somehow, I don't think the channel for a Malibu/ Monte Carlo, Cutlass coupe would be the same. But I would still like to see what it looks like. If someone out there could take a picture of one, that would be great.
Where did you see the type for a Custom Cruiser wagon indicated?
Oh, BTW. I received my order from Danno over the weekend. He was kind enough to include a few samples of run channel.
Besides the AS1720, he included a piece of AS1198, which is a good match for the vent window frame. I will be ordering a length of that, and a piece of the AS1336. I have to say, I like the fit of the AS1336 over the AS1720.
The AS1720 fits the door frame channel nicely, but I think the glass fit would be too sloppy. I tried the sample of the AS1336, and the glass will fit that more snugly.
I guess I had to see for myself. So it looks like I will be returning 2-lengths of AS1720, sorry to say.
For a couple of stupid run channels, I never would have dreamed it would be so difficult to match.
By no means am I trying to undermine your research, but this is my observation. The way I see it, we're still collaborating on a solution. I appreciate all you've done so far.
So as Cher says, " the beat goes on"..
