Getting fed up ...

This has been a crappy year for the Monte.
First it was issues with the power windows,then the ignition coil died,then my aluminum water pump developed a crack and started leaking,then my Jeep steering shaft fell apart.
Back in July I changed the oil and switched from my old Valvoline conventional 10W-30 to a synthetic blend 10W-30.
It worked OK for a while but lately it has started smoking and oil consumption has increased.
So I drained the synthetic blend out and refilled with conventional oil again,but it is still smoking heavily.
WTF,if it weren't for bad luck I wouldn't have any luck at all
I have two more car shows that I want to go to,then it might be time for early winter storage before I go back to work next month.
sh*t like this sure takes the fun out of having an old car.

We've all been there; keep ya chin up! It's what makes the hobby SO MUCH FUN! Look at the bright side- cooler weather is just around the corner, so working on the car won't be such an arduous task. It's probably just some valve seals.

I sure hope that's all it is.
But,I'm pretty much done working on it this year as I am going back to work in the Western Canada oil patch Oct 2nd and I'll be gone all winter.
Gotta make some money so I can afford to fix it next year,LOL
I did have the valve covers off yesterday and just from a visual check the valve seals look OK,but maybe that doesnt mean much.

All part of owning an old car. I get pleasure from working on and maintaining them. Sounds like it has been using oil, is it smoking on start-up ? Might be valve guide seals or deeper.

It doesn't appear to be smoking when I start it up.
It gets really bad on deceleration,especially when going downhill.

High vaccuum, sucking it in some where. Do you have positive valve guide seals on it?

I used a pushrod checking tool when I built this engine and have the correct size custom length Trend pushrods so I'm pretty certain that I don't have a geometry issue,but thanks.

When using a synthetic oil in an engine that already had an oil consumption issue or smoking it will always become worse.

The synthetic lubes so well that it is able to get into places the conventional oil could not, or could get into those places a lot easier.

I personalty go by a simple rule if it was born on synthetic keep it on synthetic if it was born on conventional keep it of conventional.
