Getting old sucks

Hernias are no joke. Our youngest had surgery for double herniated ovaries at about 3 months. You haven't lived until you've pushed your kid's reprductive organs back through their abdominal wall a few times a day for weeks on end.

All the best on the recovery!

Me? I am 39 going on 40 and both of my knees are cracking and popping like dry spagetti and old sticks. Been like that for almost a year, the right one needs a brace to hold my patella in line. Have a follow up with the Sports Med doctor on June 6 to review the X-rays. Weird when you are fit as f*ck and suddenly something just gives. I wonder what the payout from Veterans Affairs is going to be?

13+ years in the Infantry (all dismounted) and 20+ years training like an athlete. Good times. But, I am not slowing down - hell... I haven't even peaked yet.

If surgery happens I welcome the challenge to rebuild.

Ironically, Natasha has had a knee and shoulder rebuilt already - and you'd never know it.

Made 1st appointment w/surgeon for 6-1. At 37 I blew out both elbows cutting out large duct work for 8 straight days with a sawzall .At 48 I tore up a knee crossing 50lb. bang outside all shift in below zero temps. The surgeon said the arthritis in my knee didn't help any.

I try to deal with my issues by ignoring them. I had a pain psychologist after a somewhat serious car accident who suggested I keep a journal on how my back with a few messed up disks in my lower back and neck felt. I told her my back would be worse than ever if I kept a journal and had to explain to her if I focused on my back all day it would feel worse than it is. She also told me I had to cut back on work to deal with the chronic pain in my back. I am self employed so I brought in all my monthly bills and asked her to contact them to get them cut back as well so I can still afford to eat. I got rid of her in a hurry.....😏

I blew mine out when I was 27, I could recover a lot faster back then. Now I am soon to be 59, I have two artificial hips and need a left knee replaced now. I wish I had taken better care of my hands all those years of wrenching, They hurt like hell all of the time now. I also have tinnitus from never wearing hearing protection. Take care of your self while you're young kiddies.:blam:

Wow! Listening to all these war stories makes me feel fortunate at my ripe old age.

I can't really complain cause I shouldn't be walking. In the early 90's while working on new houses in Florida I was the cut guy that day, one of the guys on the roof was up at the peak putting down almost a full sheet of 5/8" plywood. The plywood slipped from his hands but he never yelled any caution. I was bent over cutting a piece for the roof and I got the edge of the plywood the fell from the roof across my lower back. I went down pretty quick and it took me a minute of two to figure out what hit me. The other guys who saw what happened were as white as ghosts. I told the guy who let the plywood go if he was still there if I ever got up I'd kill him, he left and never came back. A friend of mine ended up in a wheel chair from getting hit like I did.

I turn 45 next month, blew my back out two years ago. Worst agony I've ever been in. Ended up having back surgery after I couldn't sleep more than an hour a day and was in excruciating pain. L5-S1 disc blown out. 50 minute surgery, walked out under my own power three hours later. Two week recovery, back to work. Fully recovered after 3 months or so. Never want to go thru that again!

I am 60. Have bulged discs and a back fracture from a wreck. Go in this week for skin cancer surgery. We all thought we were going to live forever and as we get to the twilight of our years we START to know we will not. Man, good luck. We feel your pain

Holy cow some of you guys have been through a lot worse than me! I've had plenty of cuts and scrapes but I've never broken anything or needed surgery before. Pulled muscles, plenty of those. And Root Canals. I just hope I can deal with the recovery pain because as many have mentioned I don't care for pain killing drugs. The good ones just ruin your stomach. I'm sure it will be worth the inconvenience after I'm fixed. Thanks for the input and well wishing!
