Getting old sucks

They gave me percoset for my back. Took it for a few days. No appetite, couldn't poop, and was always just a little dizzy. No thanks. Dropped them quick and went back to 3200mg of ibuprofen per day.

Get well soon, man!
I too feel lucky after reading all of this.

Geez, Im almost embarrassed to start listing all my crap. It was good until I was 39 when I hurt my lower back. L5-S1 herniation. That should have been the worst that happened and I would have been thankful. Gallbladder surgery in '03, appendix in '05. Prostate cancer surgery in '08. That was a 5 hour operation, 4 day stay in Sloan Kettering. Knock wood, still clean. While I was recovering from the surgery I started to have issues with my hands burning. Turned out I have 4 herniated cervical discs. Those put me out on LTD less than 3 weeks after I went back to work.
Kidney stones 5 times. Those hurt like hell. Diverticulitis 3 times that all required hospital stays and massive doses of antibiotics. I was praying at that point. I was a nervous wreck thinking about a bowel resection.
In the middle of taking the wagon apart I tore the meniscus in my right knee. Under the knife again ! That put me out of commission for a few months. It was healing and I did something really stupid. I got down on the good knee and tore the carpet out of my living room. To this day I have pain in that knee.
My back and neck hurt pretty much every day. It was so bad I had to get rid of my 2500 crewcab and I bought a 1500. Smoother ride. So far anyway. Its a b*tch to get old. But at least I made it this far. Lots of folks I know didnt.
Now when I get up in the morning and put my feet on the floor I feel like Im setting a new personal record. I just hope I can get these projects finished before Im in the box. LOL
Good luck with the surgery ! Im sure you'll be glad you got it taken care of.

BTW, for you guys with knee issues. My wife is going to be 58 next month. She worked as an ER nurse for close to 29 years. She blew out both knees. Could hardly walk. Since she knew about the surgery she kept putting it off. In late Sept '16 she had both knees replaced at the same time. A week in the hospital. By December she was driving. She feels great. Shes sorry she waited so long. Keep that in mind.

Me? I am 39 going on 40 and both of my knees are cracking and popping like dry spagetti and old sticks. Been like that for almost a year, the right one needs a brace to hold my patella in line. Have a follow up with the Sports Med doctor on June 6 to review the X-rays. Weird when you are fit as f*ck and suddenly something just gives. I wonder what the payout from Veterans Affairs is going to be?

13+ years in the Infantry (all dismounted) and 20+ years training like an athlete. Good times. But, I am not slowing down - hell... I haven't even peaked yet.

If surgery happens I welcome the challenge to rebuild.

Don't put the knees off too long. Here's why, you never want to be the guy that they use as a the poster child for 'never seen one that bad before' - trust me. When the docs are letting out 'holy sh*ts' and 'he didn't walk in here did he' while they're looking at your x-rays means an abnormally long recovery. Blew out a knee when I was 21. After 5 surgeries before I was 30 I went to high powered NYC doc when the last reconstruction was done and his advice was to take it as long as you can, knee replacements are getting more durable all the time. 21 years later, which was 5 months ago, I had it replaced. Living arthritic pain free is something I had forgotten about.

Take care of your knees - partial knee replacements are a snap. And rarely need the 4 letter word - 'manipulation'.

Bonnewagon, good luck and as a reminder, getting older is better than the alternative of not getting any older 🙂

FWIW, the G-body keeps me young, in mind anyway 🙂🙂

Well guess I'll throw my hat in the ring. I'm almost 50 I'm diabetic, have arthritis in my hands feet and spine, scoliosis, kyphosis, degeneritive disc disease, missing 3 discs in my lower back, tore my lower back muscles twice and now im starting to lose feeling in my lower legs. Knees been giving me issues off and on for a couple years. Been told by a doctor that i'm "a skeletal wreck" and he didn't understant how i could be a mailman. lol I feel for all you other old bastards. 👍 Get well Bonnewagon

RegalBegal- you are a mailman?!? Then you and I are both walking wounded, 36 years I did before I mercifully retired. . My knees have been shot for years. But my Doc says since I can ride a bicycle then I didn't need knee replacements. The day I was floored by this hernia my Wife had total knee replacement surgery. She is in rehab now and not liking it at all. But her bones were not even lined up right- it had to be done. Begal are you on a mounted route? I did my last 20 on a PP route and that helped a whole lot.

Mark, if this was going to happen it should have occurred at the time you were called for Jury duty....

Sorry to hear about your wife, hope things work out for her. I've got 24 years in, 6.5 to go. Can't wait to retire. My route is mostly park & loop , i walk about 8.5 miles a day and believe me i feel it every day. I can still ride a bike too..... for about 3 minutes then my knees feel like they want to explode. I'm going for an MRI this week to see whats going on in my back. As distasteful as this is to me, I may have to put in to be a supervisor if the news isn't good. Been a steward for the last 13 years so it's not something I really want to do.
