Getting the F' Outta Dodge.

Just remember the magic words and you can shoot anything you want.

Is it bad that we are looking into the kind of insurance that covers us for action against any thing that we feel justified in shooting to protect our persons/property?

Oh, it's a thing.

Call it the "f*ck around and find out" clause.

I'd suggest looking at a CCFR memebership, as it should come with the insurance you want (should, it covers stuff like that, read the fine print), as not only do you get the insurance but they're going to work to prevent government from ruining your gun ownership experience.

If it's for home, I like the universal translator. 12 gauge!

They also assist in teaching English to those who "don't" & induces defecation with out squeezing the trigger. But that all might of happen cause I chambered a shell in a semi-auto Benelli that makes a lovely metallic sound when doing so. I miss shotgun so much.

But I'd suggest 30-06 just cause I have three rifles that fires it. Choices should be like a M1903 but not sure if those are fair game up north. But the move south would let you collect one of each of the '03 models.

12 gauge all around my house. The round choices are almost endless.

I have signed up for my PAL/Hunter Safety course next weekend.

Gotta get my paperwork in and a firearm on the move next. Any recommendations?

Let the cities starve.
After a few huge disappointments from Remington and having a rifle go off by removing the safety (X-mark Pro trigger issues) Ive become a bit of a Browning snob. I have 2 X-Bolts in .270WSM Both Sub MOA rifles with almost any factory load Ive feed them. My Coyote/long range gopher gun is a Savage Model 25. in .223 and will shoot dime size groups at 200 yards with .68GR BTHP Hornady hand loads. For rim fire I have a Savage MKII and recently sold my Ruger SR22. My shotgun is a Beretta A390 Ducks Unlimited special edition. I never got into upland game as much as I wanted I mostly use it for sporting clays. And all the other firearms I had that are now prohibited were lost in a tragic boating accident.

What are your goals?

Deer mostly. People if needed.

I would like a responsible/effective rifle for hunting.

A pump action shotgun has always had an appeal to me. It pretty universal for blasting crap.

.270Win .308 .30-06 .243 for standard calibers you can't go wrong.
.243 would be a great starter cartridge the wife and soon enough girls could easily shoot.
