I have looked into it. Pricing for those is a lot especially with exchange, duty, shipping to Canada. And Grand National or any other G that ram the 8.5 from factory are not easy to come by up here either! I wish I could go with one of the made to fit rear ends!

I don't know what kind of power you have but the 8.2" I have cost me $600, it's a Eaton posi and had the 3.08 gears I like and it still has the original clutch packs. The 8.2" is good up to around 500 hp, I'm getting close to that so I might have to remove some stickers.

I say it everytime this topic comes up...

Even Chevy knows when they are beat......

Which is why the New COPO Camaro has a Ford 9 inch in it

I have a feeling that COPO is getting the rear ends from Moser....

Thats about the power im shooting for. Im just looking for anything that will hold up better than a 7.5 at this point! Lots of swap options for these cars.

And I am building a mid 90's Crown Vic 8.8 for my car. I should be well under a grand with all new internals when done :) No special control arms, no c clip eliminators. Parts are super easy to come by and it will take the same abuse that a 12 bolt will take except I didn't have to spend a fortune for a bare housing.

Guys use 12 bolt rear ends from 68-72 novas/67-69 camaros. They are the right width but you need to modify it to fit coil spring set up. as for the "12 bolt" from the cutlass as I understand it has 12 bolts holding the cover on and bolt 10 bolts actually holding the ring gear to the carrier making it a 10 bolt rear end. Pop the cover off to verify.

Hey all, thought I would update this thread.

SO, i bit the bullet and went with a Ford 8.8 out of a 99 Exploder...
It has 3.73 gear ratio, Traction lock (Ford's posi), disc brakes, 5 lug and the beefier 31 spline axles.

This one was easier to come by than a Mustang or Crown Vic rear end, and has everything i am looking for stock.

Southside Machine Performance makes a complete swap kit with all the brackets and control arms that i will use.
I figure use that kit, new brakes, replace the clutches, brake lines, gear oil and whatever other misc. supplies I need i should be able to get this swap completed for right about 1000-1200 Canuck bucks with the cost of the whole rear end included.

That sounds like a pretty good deal to me.
Years ago when I bought my 9 inch from Forrest & Forrest Racing in Kitchener Ont I paid $ 1200.00 and had to supply my own center section, limited slip and brake shoes.
I will pass along a tip given to me by the gentleman that I got my center section and limited slip from, and he is a long time Ford guy.
Before you install those new clutches, soak them in a mixture of whatever gear oil you are going to use and a bottle of Ford Limited Slip Additive for at least overnight.I left mine to soak for a couple of days.
You will know it when you buy the genuine Ford stuff as it stinks like a skunk, even in a closed bottle,LOL
This tip works and will help your new clutches live a longer and happier life.
Be sure to let us know how you make out...

I think i made out alright for what i paid for the rear end and for what it will cost to have it all said and done sitting under the car!
And i have heard that the Ford LSA is just a horrible, putrid smelling liquid haha. Thank you for passing on that great bit of info. I was aware to soak them but I will let them bathe for a couple days now prior to install!

I will update this thread and try to take as many pictures and pass on whatever i find and learn doing this swap. (I will try my best at maybe doing a "How To" on it but there are some members on here who can write them up like they are from a magazine haha.)
I know the guys at SSM said as much tech support as needed so that will be a life saver come time as well. It might be sometime before i have all the parts ready but i will update come the time!
