I agree that GM produced some losers in the 80's and 90's (pretty much anything designed after the G-body's). However, has anyone checked out their newer cars? The new Malibu, Cobalt, and Pontiac G's are really nice cars. Every bit as nice as their competition.
All cars from the 80's were crap. As much as everyone talks about how great the foreign cars are, where are all of the classic ones? You don't still see 80' Carollas or Civics on the road anymore. They rotted-out just like American metal of the day. They just did a better job of marketing. I know a guy with 325K on his Chevy, so some do last like the imports. That Nissan may have delivered alot of Pizza, but I am guessing that the Diesel Chevy has been to a few Construction Site, has been abused, and has probably worked alot harder in its life.
Drive around and look to see what is on the highway. If it is newer that the mid-90's chances are it is foreign. However, if it is older it is probably a GM. I once was arguing with a friend which was better Chevy or Ford. I won the argument by having him count 80's Cavelier's and Escorts for a week. There were 4 times as many Cavaliers on the road. Now compare that to 80's Toyota's or Nissan's. Let me know your results.
Why is it we give $750B to the banks without batting an eye, but we make the big 3 grovel for what amounts to 2% of that? They employ more people (directly and indirectly). If they fail this country is done! "As goes GM, so goes the nation".
If the government gets control of the auto industry like they want, say good-bye to the Camaro, the Mustang, and the Challenger. Do you really think they will see v-8 RWD enthusiast cars as viable? As much as I hate to say this as a card carrying liberal we need to save the auto industry from death and the government.
