GM to remove the GM logo from all vehicles

DETROIT
-- General Motors Co. is dropping the GM logo on its cars and trucks.

The badge is a small silver square with the blue "GM" embossed on it. It's usually on the lower edge of the front fenders.

"With the focus really turning towards our four core brands, the feeling was let's gradually get away from the GM logo," GM spokesman Pat Morrissey says. The logos will be removed gradually from 2010 models. No 2011 models will carry the badge.

In April 2005, the Pontiac G6 was the first vehicle of the current lineup to get the GM logo. Since then the badge has gone on all GM vehicles except the Pontiac Vibe.

But those inside GM say another reason to eliminate the badge is to distance GM's stronger brands, such as Chevrolet and Cadillac, from GM's image as a taxpayer-supported company just out of bankruptcy.

Plus, it has been on there only for about 4 years. I don't really care though as there is no GM vehicle I could realistically consider buying. I mean, the only thing cheap enough for me to buy is an Aveo, and there are better cars out there for the same money. My money would be on a 1.6 liter Nissan Versa instead.

I just think it's funny how they are doing it just to try to get people to forget that chevrolet and caddy and others are truly GM cars, only going to fool a couple idiots with this idea

The way our economy is headed, thats not a good attitude to have.Of course, there will always be cheaper alternative vehicles because of their "sweatshop-like" labor force, but its OUR country we should be supporting, not Japan,Korea,China,or Europe. They arent helping us.

Here's how I see it. I, as a taxpayer, now own part of GM. If they can save 10 or 15 cents per vehicle -- that's 10 or 15 cents of my money. Not to say they won't waste it somewhere else. It means nothing. Another empty/pointless gesture. I can't believe this is a thread...let alone a press release. :?

Ummm... the Versa is US built in Tennessee and a better car. The Aveo is South Korean and built for GM by Daewoo. I do not drive American cars because they are not reliable enough. I expect 300-400k miles of pizza delivery from a car or truck without changing the engine. I am not here to help mediocre or poor companies survive on my dime. If they want to get my business, they can start by making the best product for my money. GM and Chrysler do not do that, and so I will not darken the door of any of their showrooms. I am not going to bankrupt myself with a low quality car that breaks down all the time just to "save" an American company. Ford stands a chance at getting my money when it brings in the Fiesta from Europe, but GM has the crappy Cobalt and Chrysler the horrific Caliber. None of them represent a decent value for someone making $23,000 a year and delivering pizza.

I also want to see the Domestics do poorly because it screws union workers. I try my best to NOT buy from union companies as I want them to lose their political power. After all, they support my political enemies on the left, so there is no reason I need to support them.

If I remember correctly, I believe I read somewhere that Buicks were the most reliable cars on the road . . .

It's no wonder why Ford is doing so well. I bought a new Lightning in 2004 . . . and after 90K miles never had to replace one thing expect a minor sensor that the dealer replaced for free. I beat the hell out of that truck. Heavy acceleration, maxed out the payload several times, thing always ran like a champ. Just got a Mustang GT to replace a Nissan Altima that was falling apart like you wouldn't believe.

Don't be fooled by what you read . . . Nissan's are solid cars that hold up well, but these cars are designed so that if you do not adhere to the maintenance schedule closely, they will not last very long at all.

Just my two cents.
