There are still people out there who will burn custom PROM chips for you. There is a member over on MCSS.com who burns ZZ4 chips for $25 that deletes the EGR valve. So someone should be able to burn an Olds PROM that disables the EGR so one can run the CCC with a non EGR manifold.

Yeah, rumor has it there's 'some guy' on the Monte boards who does this but so far I have not heard of any of the Olds guys over the years ( including myself who have done ALOT of research ) who have gotten one made from this guy ( or anyone else ). Ask for a Chevy ZZ4 chip and I'm sure you'll be able to find one without too much trouble but as soon as you try to get someone to do one for an Olds, eveything goes silent...

So I'm not saying it's impossible, just that all the Olds guys I've heard about who have been interested in getting a custom PROM have yet to ever get one.

This idea is absurd, stupid, and motivated by misinformation. There is absolutely no advantage to running an ECM on a big block which was intended for a smaller engine, and if fuel mileage is the motivator there are so many other ways / different things you could be doing. If you want ac/heat back and still want decent fuel economy why not just grab a modern 350 TBI / EFI with a computer from a newer vehicle and fabricate modern climate control? It would save you thousands of dollars/ dozens of hours of work and get 5-6 better mpg than your useless big block that can't perform to its abilities because its being limited/choked up by an outdated piece of sh*t mismatched computer from the 80s which was intended to manage an entirely different setup

gay idea

The only 'gay idea' would be to listen to anything you have to say about this since your post is laughable and shows how little you know on the subject.. You obviously know nothing about how the CCC system even works so perhaps you shouldn't be giving people advice about it.

I like how using the CCC stuff somehow will cost thousands of dollars and dozens of hours to get it to work but fabricating a workable Chevy TBI/EFI setup to work well on an Olds 455 will cost much less and be easier. Care to explain that one?

How does the CCC system choke down a engine anyway? Again, you don't even know how it works or what it does, so why are you spreading misinformation about it, which ironicaly you accused others of doing? If you understand how it works, why don't you educate everyone on your knowledge of it?

And hypotheticaly even IF the CCC stuff wasn't a good idea, don't you think it's pretty lame to come on here and basicaly tell people they're ideas are absurd, stupid, and gay, when instead you could just simply state you don't feel it's a good idea and state your reasons why in an adult manner instead of insulting the others for wanting to do something other than putting a Chevy 350 in their Cutlass?

I actually think he should be commended for doing something else besides chev350'ing up I just disagree with using CCC and an ECM to get heat/ac. If it's so important to have climate control and good fuel mileage then he should just get a modern setup w/ newer electronics/sensors and skip the big block altogether is what I was saying. You completely misunderstood and went off into left field w/ what I had said. What really set off the 'this idea is stupid' meter for me was the idea of trying to get good fuel economy out of a big block. Its already hard enough to do that with a small block - trying to preserve fuel economy while building a big block engine is like using weapons to promote world peace - it doesnt make any sense

Well that's certainly refreshing to hear!

I wouldn't add a CCC system for heat/AC either, but I don't think that is/was the real reason for wanting to go CCC though. Not to mention the heat is totally independant of the CCC system and the AC can easily be rewired to work without the CCC stuff with no issues. Since he needs to get the whole AC module to put in, this is the best chance to reinstall the CCC harness because there's nothing in the way. I just did this receantly on a friends 442. It took just a few minutes.

You completely misunderstood and went off into left field w/ what I had said.

Well lets be fair, your post came off pretty strong and insulting, whether you meant it as such or not. You also claimed misinformation which I don't see was given by anyone.

What really set off the 'this idea is stupid' meter for me was the idea of trying to get good fuel economy out of a big block. Its already hard enough to do that with a small block - trying to preserve fuel economy while building a big block engine is like using weapons to promote world peace - it doesnt make any sense

Well I think there's a big difference between saying "I want to build a car that gets good milage so I'm going to start by building a big block" and "I want a build a fast big block car but if I could sqeeze out a couple more MPG so I can have my cake and eat it too, than I'm all for it". I really think the op is thinking the later and not the former.

Converter lockup with the CCC system is worlds better than ANY aftermarket kit too!

Yea I just think that building a big block car you can barely afford to put gas in is a bad investment because you wont be able to enjoy the car. Blocking off space in the engine compartment where the Heat compressor/ AC equipment mounts is also no good if you want a heated/ air conditioned car. Now there goes $100's of $ on fabrication and with a low gas budget it becomes a weekends/ or special occasions only car and probably ends up on ebay for less than its worth a few years down the road because its not worth continuing to pay insurance / plates on to only use a few times a month. It seems to me staying in the small block category would be a much better idea. An LS series or LT1 motor can easily fit in a gbody w/ climate control and put out similar horsepower @ 5-6 mpg better than any big block, it just won't make quite as much torque early in the gear but so what? If you wouldn't be able to afford the type of gas mileage a big block motor realistically gets why 'paint yourself into a corner' building a car you will not be able to use on a daily basis - yet has extra weight making it impractical for the strip as well

I like the look of a stock motor and I completely misunderstood the way ccc works and thought it sucked, until I started reading about it and figuring out how it works. Taking the a/c and heat out of my cutlass was a big mistake and thats why I'm putting that in hopefully something within the year. The Idea of having the computer back in the car is once again, for that stock look and no one will tell its a 455 or 307 when its in there. I also cant see myself ever putting a Chebby motor, or any 'Modern' fuel injection in my car so long as I have a hole in my *ss , and there is nothing wrong with the OEM climate control setup, I cant see the need to spend big bucks on a new, expensive aftermarket universal kit that may or may not work.

The idea is about MPG but not entirely based just on that, I know fuel mileage and big block dont mix yadda yadda yadda, but I want a stock looking setup so no one will figure out that it has great power (sleeper) and its for personal preference.

And again with the chevy thing, A stock olds 455 has boat loads of raw torque whereas chevy 350 lacks that.

My old olds 350 got about the same gas mileage as any other mild big block and had a 3500 stall, 750 double pumper, th350 and a huge compression ratio. Its mileage wasnt pretty and leaded race gas was expensive and I drove that car around for most of the summer. I not worrying too much about using CCC and a big block, it can be done and mileage wise, A qjet and having a computer hooked to it metering its fuel sounds pretty decent. Another thing with CCC is, you phyically cannot get the computer to agree with a hot cam, so a very mild grind is what's going to work, so by biasing those two things (fuel metering and mild cam selection) the whole performance/enjoyable cruiser can quite possibly be accomplished.
