Well, then it could be a transmission issue, since it wasn't running, so was the shifter fully enguaged in gear? also could be something wrapped around the driveshaft. you are going to need to lift the car and see where the sound is coming from when you turn the rear and front wheels by hand.

ok...with me upgraded my timin chain to a double should i have used a different timin cover cause i used my original...

in most cases no, but sometimes you can get them slightly thicker than normal, I had one that was rubbing on my timing cover, is you engine a newer roller 305 or the one that cam in the car, new roller motors don't accept a double roller with the stock cover.

The ticking noise was your trans/driveshaft turning.

When you pull a car with an automatic trans with the motor off, the driveshaft is spinning in the trans, but the engine is not pumping the fluid, resulting in spinning a dry trans, which often leads to transmission death.

You should always pull the driveshaft out before towing a vehicle.

my engine is an 85 chevy orign...an if had a single chain on it at first.......an as for the transmission wow that can happen even if its in nuetral .....i hope i didnt hurt it cause man i just got it rebuilt

I don't think you hurt it since you it broke down about a block away I think you said.......and the damage is caused by the drive shaft still turning the transmission but there is no oil being pumped through the system

ok but know like wen it runs it makin this tick noise....wen i put it in gear it still makes the noise

that could be a slightly loose flexplate. does the noise vary directly with RPM's? you can neutral drift an old model trans a good long distance w/out damage. pulling the d-shaft is now recommended on newer cars if going over 50mi
