Grandpa Car: 1979 Cutlass Thread

Great pictures and thanks for sharing them. It looked to be a good turnout and the weather sure looked great. That early iron show would have been interesting. It's amazing the ingenuity so many of the people seem to have way back then to make their chores easier to accomplish... 🙂

Went to take it though DEQ testing (failed BTW) and noticed what may be the verrry beginning of a light rod knock. Hopefully I'm just being paranoid. That got me thinking. Is it time to start looking for that 403 I've been wanting?

That's a beautiful car, and it's great to see it getting the love and attention it deserves, doubly so as it's an heirloom. Also some amazing dent removal work from your guy, damn.

On a side note, I really, really like the hubcaps that came off it. If you ever feel like selling them and don't mind shipping them(with lots of padding), I'd gladly buy them for the Knightmobile.

 Why do so many people like those hub caps? I still think they're ugly but since they came with the car I'm going to hang on to them. Sorry. And thanks for the kind words.

Ran through DEQ again. Passed this time. Didn't hear that rod knock noise either. But...I think I have a line on a 403. Supposed to be complete and in good running condition including a TH350 for $200. The problem is that it's 8 hours away. Fortunately it's only a few minutes from where my parents live. I'll have to see if my dad might be willing to pick it up and store it for me. Not sure what it came out of but the TH350 is a long tail version. Any guesses as to the original application?

Man, I LOVE driving this car.

I've never owned one but have wanted to set this car right since the day I bought it. It'll get Olds power eventually. Might not be for a couple years though. Other projects come first. As it is, the car is a nice driver. Just wish it was all Olds. If I can buy a good engine cheap it can sit in the corner until the time comes.
