Finally got word from the tag office to bring the car for vin inspection. Told them I would bring it in a couple weeks. I'm having issues with the Holley 600 that is built from 3 different carbs. I think its sucking air around the throttle shaft. I bought a brand new one and plan on bolting it on today. I've been working on the rear bumper and urethane fillers. I dug out my rear bumper fillers from my shed and the long ones are crumbling. I removed one inch from my bumper mounts and that pulled the bumper closer to the tail lights. I pushed it all the way up but still had a gap. I then noticed the bottom of the bumper was higher than the bottom of the quarters. I have another rear bumper here so I cut both bumpers lengthways where the impact strip attaches. I cut one high and the other low and tacked it back together. This made the bumper taller by about an inch. It fits very close to the bottom of the taillights and its even with the bottom of the quarters. I also cut off the top of the extra bumper piece and welded those on for extensions. I removed one inch from the corners and tacked them back on. Had to modify the side urethane fillers also. I scratch built a licence plate lower surround that bolts on. I ordered some license plate lights from Speedway but they have not come in yet. I've been on this bumper 3 days and still have seams and holes to weld up.

I had bought a new coolant resovoir from G Body Parts last year. I mocked it up on the inner fender and it must be for a Monte. Got on ebay and bought the correct one. Also when my buddy had this car, he painted the deck lid black. I had scuffed it and put base on but noticed a bubble. I chemical stripped it to bare metal and found some surface rust on the bare metal where the bodywork had been done. Not sure what he did. I'm assuming he ground the low areas clean because I can see the scratch marks but must have been damp before he put on the filler. I got it clean and sanded and going to put filler on today. I'm having some horrible luck on this car.

Good to see you back on and still at it!

I put on the new Holley carb and got it running. The idle is changing whenever I hit the throttle. If I blip the throttle, when it comes back down it acts like its going to die. If I blip it again, it comes back down but at a high idle but not necessarily the same order . The distributor clamp is tight so I'm suspecting sticking or too loose HEI counterweights???? My old carb might be OK after all. At least the new one is nicer looking. Lol

YEP! the Summit brand HEI distributor has a real sloppy counterweight assembly and one was not closing until I pushed on it. The lower counterweight plate has raised beads for the counterweights and this is whats hanging them. I have an ACCEL HEI here with a popped module. The ACCEL has nylon bushings for the counterweights to ride on. There was no comparison on how smooth the Accel counterweight assembly worked comparing the two. I swapped distributors, modules, and put my DUI cap/coil back on. Fired right up and idles perfect no matter if I blip it or not. So I have a good used 600 Holley with a rear jet plate kit. I'm sure I'll find a use for it later. I've used a few of the Summit brand HEIs and never had this issue. They must have changed suppliers or parts.

Today I installed my reman power steering pump, painted pulley, and brackets. The belt they gave me at the parts store was too small. Luckily I have a big assortment of used belts. Found the correct one and used it. My dumb @$$ threw away the old power steering hoses and did not remember I needed the low pressure flared metal line on the box. DOH. I had a new metal line here and bent it to shape close to the brand new high pressure one. Now I got power steering. Had the wife help me bleed the brakes again. The pedal was slowly going to the floor. Now its good.

I agree, love the bumper modifications. I can appreciate the time it takes to mod them, I have a ridiculous amount of time in my front bumper.

Dang I wish I could get over the hump. I've been working away trying to get all the other body parts ready for paint. It just feels like nothings getting done. Now it looks like at least 4 days of rain so no pushing the 55 out to work on the salon. I can honestly say that I am BURNT OUT
