No July 4th thread? OK, no problemo. I was listening to my Grandson's college radio station and the DJ played the Hendix version of the Star Spangled Banner. Great stuff. But he said that Hendrix served in Vietnam with the 101st Airborne. Not true. While he WAS in the 101st, he joined up for three years vs three years in jail. [there was lots of that in the 60's] He was a problem child even in the Army and they wanted him out so they got him a general discharge under honorable conditions. [Boy, I could have used that!!!!] But still, he trained by jumping out of perfectly good airplanes, and went on to change music forever. So while you are partying, remember that freedom isn't free, and many have served to keep us free. Let's all pray that we stay that way.

As 4ths go, this one was pretty disappointing. Lots of stores open, people working, shopping, treating it like any other day to just catch up on errands.

Back in the day it was a day to celebrate, gather family and friends, not just an excuse to go to the store. Not much happening in the way of parades, few flags waiving, and never-mind seeing much bunting out.

Pretty sad that this is what it's come to, weekday or not.

Well, the fireworks vendors sure made a killing today!!!!! How come people who don't have a pot to piss in manage to have enough fireworks to fight WW3 ?!?

Went to the local parade, an hour long with every local VFD in line.
Tractors, classic cars, some very well done floats.
Highlight for me was the VT Air Guard flyover with a pair of F-35's at low altitude.
First pass woke everyone up, looped around for a second one with the candles lit.....
