HAS ANYONE HEARD OF THIS?

I just installed a G Force crossmember from someone who had it in their Malibu and it fits fine, everything bolted right up. Also that is with an Olds engine in it also. I dont have any problems with the headers hitting the frame either.

joe...why don't you tell us how you really feel.....

if anyone cared to think about it if an engine was offset how was it offset?...the easiest way would be the engine mounts but the mounts they are identical mirror image of each other and if don't believe that take a look at the crossmember and measure the clearance on each side of the oil pan...it's the same...and every G body came with the same chassis so there no offset there.....and if there was I guess Cutlass Supremes would have unequal control arm lengths on the left and right sides to compensate for the offset chassis...

Now I think this *may* be confusing the issue again - the engine is indeed offset in the engine bay by 1/2", it is likely built into the frame. What Joe is saying is that no g-body is different from another in this respect, which of course makes sense. There is a myth out there that ONLY Cutlass' are offset, which is incorrect - this is the point Joe is making. ALL g-bodies are offset, not just Cutlass'

Go out and measure from your carb stud to each fender - you will find a 1" difference in measurements. Trust me 😉 I know 2/3rd gen F-bodies are the same as I have seen several with engine mounted blowers and they are also not centered on the hood. Again, shakers have an offset built into them for this reason.

sorry your right, I should have mentioned that....what I was pointing out there is nothing different with a Cutlass Supreme than with any other G body...

but my other post as to explain why it is offset to the passenger side stands... 8)

The offset was actually there to counter the offset of the pinion gear so the centerlines of the driveline were kept straight. The crank, transmission, and pinion gear centerlines are the same left to right.

I remember reading about this in an old issue of Hot Rod a few years back. It is true that the Supreme had a different offset than the other models, but it was in early 70's A body Cutlasses with the 455, not G bodies. It may be that they were mistaken about this at the manufacturer when the catalog was made. So far as I have ever seen, there exist only two crossmembers: 1 for 3 speed automatics and one for the TH2004R. There may be an additional model for factory manual trans applications, but I doubt it.

BTW, my car is a Supreme, but I used the crossmember from a 305 Grand Prix. Fit just fine.

AURRRGHHHG! NO. NO. NO. (are you just trying to get my blood pressure up? ;-))

I've owned 26 different A-body Oldsmobiles in the last 35 years. Let me make this clear:

THERE IS NO OFFSET IN THE SUPREME THAT IS ANY DIFFERENT FROM THAT OF ANY OTHER A-BODY OF THE SAME YEAR.

One more time:

The frame, motor mounts, frame mounts, block, trans, crossmember, exhaust manifolds, exhaust pipes, inner fenders, and anything else you care to look at carry the EXACT SAME PART NUMBER for the same year Supreme verses any other Cutlass or 442.
