Heat soak......tired of it

I have never needed shims with an Olds V8. Basically you clock it to the best position to clear everything. I actually ground slightly on the body so it would sit tight against the block. A hell of a lot nicer than the full size starter to put in place. Supposedly not all big bodied starters are created equal. You may not have the factory higher torque starter.

I gotta grab some more parts before I put it back on. The starter cable has some heat damage so I'm going to replace it. Probly buy the nice sleeves to protect the cable/wires from any heat. Was thinking of getting new header gasket too since its off. Gonna finish it tomorrow. Probly just throw that starter on and see what happens

So I put the starter in without shims and looks like the gears don't line up. And not sure if the 2 shims are enough to make it ligned up. So this means I have to "clock it"? And happen to notice this garbage while admiring the tape or cloth around the wiring... I am seriously on the verge of saying **** this car and selling it

Just getting worn down.....nothing goes smoothly. I fix something to find something else that needs to be fixed. Never ending cycle. When do I stop....when I exceed past the true value of the car? I'm at the point where I can still make money off the car and just wait for a true original car that needs nothing. I don't have patience for this. I want everything perfect but will never be perfect. Very Frustrating for me

You have to ask yourself "Self, do I love this car?". It seems like you don't. Sell it to someone that will appreciate it, and get what you want not what you have.
Where's it at, and what's your price?

I have even used SBC starters without issue on the Olds V8. You sound like DoubleV on here. Every part he has bought has had issues. He bought a pair of Sanderson headers, his had holes in the welds, I bought 3 pairs that were fine. Doesn't mean I don't get junk parts or buy the wrong ones. Double check the part number on the starter.

Reviews showed people having these on their 403. I'm just gonna splice that wire out. Hook everything up and get it together. Then add those fuses by the firewall if I absolutely need them.

I dream of the day when the only thing on my cars to do list is installing a starter and doing some rewiring
