Hi All,
I'm new here. I found this site while researching for some engine transplant info. I have an '86 442 with a '90 Vette TPI to go in. I am looking for an existing driveshaft swap to go with it if possible. I can have one made for about $200, but was hoping to find one that I could junkyard. I plan on searching the site further, but thought I might find help here also.
Thanks in advance,
David

What trans are you using?

700R4 Auto

I believe with a 700R4 you will need a custom driveshaft, and I the other thing I would be concerned with is the trans mount location.. I personally would switch to a 200- 4R. The 200-4R--with its multi-use capabilities--will mount to any standard bellhousing-equipped GM engine (Chevrolet, Buick, Pontiac, Oldsmobile) and is an extremely efficient transmission when it comes to putting the power to rear wheels. The 200-4R features less internal rotating mass and a lower inertia level that will not rob your high-performance engine of precious horsepower. The 200-4R, I believe, has better gear ratios With less of a dropoff between 1st and 2nd.

your right about the gearing....

200-R4 2.74 1.57 1.00 0.67

700-R4 3.06 1.62 1.00 0.70

plus the 200 is about 27 pounds lighter
