OK......I have been told stories by many people that when it comes to carbs, bigger is better...Look at my Sig and you can see what I have with regards to my set up..I am toying with the idea of switching from a 750 Holley DP to an 850 Holley Street carb...While looking at the charts for the street avenger series carbs, I see that they reccomend 870 cfm for 500 hp or more....I have no issues with my 750 now, just looking for opinions, and I want to go faster. WOuld the 850 improve my E.T.? .... 8)

If you run an HP carb or even add an hp main body to you carb it will make a world of a difference. I have found that on my 383 the 750hp made more power then the 850hp. On my old 406 car went 12.0 on an 850hp the i had a custom 830 carb built car went 11.52 so i dont believe bigger is better

bigger is not better, unless you have too small a carb on there. like when i had a 650 on my 383---just acted weird.
regardless, if your engine is making 500hp the 850 is probably better. on a standard 383, 750 is fine, but i'm guessing that your's either has large heads or very high RPMs to get 500hp

JBreu what is your 60foot time and what converter do u have in your car ( stall ) ?
My 60' times last year were 1.80 and that sucks...Of course that was with a converter that would break the tires loose at 1800 rpms...I haven't been to the track yet this year, I bought a 3200 stall converter from PTC so I'm pretty sure the 60' will be lower this time around.

MY motor dynoed the 514 hp at 6800 rpms and as far as the heads..I am running the 200 cc dart pro-1 aluminum heads 8)

I don't think bigger is alwasy better. However, I also believe those "cfm calculators" are BS. I can't tell you how many times I've been told my 750 is too big and I should run a 650.
... and this is said considering no flow numbers, no real understanding of the build, etc... Like they are just regurgitating what the last guy told them.

aaaaanyways...

have you considered a 750 with a pro-form body? I have no knowledge of the details, but apparently it's a Street Avenger body with DoublePumper base and bowls? You could likely up your CFM with that, and run larger jetting and accelerator pump.

... what's in the carb now? jets? accel pump 30cc or 50cc? which pump cams?

do you feel the carb go flat at high rpms?

That would be a center section based on a holley hp carb. Its good for about 20-25 horsepower just buy swapping the center of your carb. A little bigger secondary jet is a wise investment. I recommended this previously. With the center section and uping jets your 750 will be more like a 780.

The choke horn has been milled and all the linkage and other crap related to that has been removed...Would the hp center body be much of a difference now that has been done to my carb? I'm also running 72 primary and 80 secondary jets right now and I think 30 cc accelerator pumps, not sure though... 8)
