Do you have a fuel pressure gauge? Could be simply running out of fuel, could be valve float, or yes still could be on the lean side at the top end

Unfortunately I don't have a fuel pressure gauge. I had 77 jets in the secondaries previously and it didn't seem to remedy anything vs. the 75 jets. Actually didn't feel as strong. Maybe the sock in the tank is collapsing or full of sediment. The car sat for a while before I ever got it.

Well if you think you felt a power loss by riching it up then I would look at a fuel starvation issue, you should have a fuel pressure gauge inside the car, every car should, it could be the sock filter or the actual fuel filter, even the pump. Most stock style pumps have trouble with fuel delivery at a higher rpm. And it still could be valve float, I would put a gauge on it see what it does fuel wise before I looked at valve springs

I should have mentioned I have a Holley 110 gph pump along with a matching high flow filter. I will try and get a gauge on the car to see what's going on.

Ok should eliminate the pump being a problem, could still be the pickup sock so a gauge should still help eliminate the fuel system as a whole

Pulled the tank and removed the sock. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the tank and sending unit have been replaced at one time, the Spectra number is stamped on them. Lines are newer too. Everything was in good shape and the tank had no crud.

The sock looks very restrictive. I can see how it might be collapsing. Have to put the tank back in and test to see if it makes a difference.

It is restrictive, but it doesn't require much fuel to feed a 125hp motor that all these cars came with, you are now asking more out of the system so it will need some modifications

Removed the sock and reinstalled the tank. The problem still exists at 5500rpm, popping and revs won't climb. Between 89 and 91 octane there is no noticeable difference which leads me to believe it's not detonation.

Ignition system is new. I cleaned the ground to be sure and checked the power feed (wired directly to battery).

Richer secondary jets do not help the problem.

I'm stumped at this point. Valve float? What does it sound like?

sounds like the ignition module, I know it's new but I would try another from a reputable company.
