Hurst Olds Lightning Rods

Because of the intricate mechanical side of the rods being the way they are I cannot see us trying to change that

Why can't they just be used backwards?? I've been able to make a gate for a normal shifter. Just push the button to upshift. So instead of running the L rods in the normal pattern why couldn't you reverse it? instead of just pushing the stick to upshift, you push the button since its backwards? I'm sure im not the only one running a reverse pattern 200-4R.

because lightning rods don't use one gate plate. it is almost like having 3 shifters in one . you need to machine and make new plates for each stick. essentially he would be making a whole new shifter at that point. they are a very tedious and labor intensive process to set all that up and then get each lever to work correctly with the next. not as simple as a factory shifter or hurst/b&m where you pop on a new plate and away you go.

I love the kitchen engineering photo in an earlier post. This is what American small engineering is all about. Hope these are made domestically. This sounds socialist, but if we could just afford the prices necessary to put Americans to work manufacturing cool stuff like this so aftermarket vendors did not have to send stuff to China to manufactured, everybody would win except the pirates. Excellent effort. Very cool design work, and we get to see it in progress on the Forum.

my brother has a set for 3 speed. We want to look into making you gates to run with the 4 speed.
